Installation on partitions with multiple serial at

i have the following setup

/dev/sda --- primary 250 gig serial ata

/dev/sdb --- secondary 160 gig serial ata

 

/dev/sda1 linux boot

/dev/sda2 linux root (gentoo)

/dev/sda3 linux swap (end of drive)

/dev/sda4 (logical volume)

/dev/sda5 ntfs storage

/dev/sda6 (af partition for tiger)

 

/dev/sdb1 windoze xp

/dev/sdb2 windows storage

 

i have the tiger-x86-flat.img and since i wanted to install on partition i did

1) set partition type to af

 

$dd if=tiger-x86-flat.img of=/dev/sda6 bs=512 skip=63

(to skip the mbr of the hfs partition)

 

in grub i did the following

 

title=tiger

rootnoverify (hd0,5)

makeactive

chainloader +1

 

i get the following errors

invalid device

then i removed the makeactive

hfs+ parittion error

i also tried using ntldr by editing my boot.ini but it just gets back to the os select screen (i think this is coz im using 2 different harddrives and chain0 prlly looks on the hard drive its on)

 

any help will be appreciated (i really dont wanna have to get another drive)
