Hey guys - I wanted to share a solution to various "waiting for root device" and kernel panics during installation.

My PC:

EP43-DS3L

Core 2 Duo E5300

2 GB DDR II

GeForce 9600GT

I OCed the bus to 1333, CPU multiplier 9, memory divider at 800. Windows 7 is running smoothly, according to Intel burn test. Ran it for 2 hours, and it detected no instability whatsoever. Win7 is running perfectly.

With these settings iAtkos 10.5.6 got to the installation screen, but any other release (iDeneb 10.5.7, iAtkos 10.5.8) put up a bunch of disk I/O errors, kept shutting down the HD, kernel panics, CPU halted, and various other issues!

The same releases worked on my 2nd PC, so the DVDs are fine.

We wasted 2 and a half days reading up on the forums and trying different things, until at last we reset the BIOS to default settings, then we turned on AHCI and made the DVD the 1st boot drive, and... Everything is working.

Just something to consider.
