tamorgen
My Dell Inspiron 1720 has the Intel 4965 WLAN card built in. As every post I have read has said, it does not work on any variation of a Mac OS X on a PC. I know there is an effort out there to create the correct kext, but that has been going on for some time, and from what I've read, I don't see any hope in the immediate future, especially on Snow Leopard. All success so far has been limited to 10.5.x versions, and limited at that. That said, I'm looking into what else I can put in my laptop that will work. Many people have mentioned the Dell 1390 WLAN card. It's cheap, odds are that it will work. But this card is limited to B/G speeds. Does anybody know of a card out there that will work on N as well? I've done some research and there is a Dell 1505 and 1510 series of WLAN cards. Does anybody know if these work in OS X? Has anybody come up with anything better? Thanks! tamorgen
Okay, I'm going to take the plunge. I have a good feeling about this one. After a bit of research, it turns out that the Dell 1500 series is actually a Broadcom chipset, specifically, BCM94321MC. If anyone does a google search, it is available for $20 on ebay. Part of the google search revealed that this is a native Apple Airport device. Anyone interested, check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/Broadcom-BCM94321MC-80...id=270410717995 It is compatible with many Dell laptops, see the list torwards the bottom of the page, here. http://www.hexparts.com/Dell-Wireless-1505...21MC_p_834.html Hopefully by the end of the week, I'll have working wireless on my Inspiron 1720! tamorgen
Okay, I just got the card in the mail, and installed it. Took about 2 minutes, and I rebooted into both Windows and into OSX, and they both bring up the adapter right away. I got on my Wifi right away, and I couldn't be happier. Now if I can only get this damn thing to restart & shutdown properly, I can sit back and be bored, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195861-dell-wlan-cards-advice/#findComment-1322990 Share on other sites
