I would like to build my first hackintosh but since I don't know much about 3rd party PC hardware I need help with finding those parts that will meet my goal from the compatibility list.

Case: I would like to have a small form factor (micro tower or smaller) that is whisper quiet, Motherboard: quad core with the best power consumption possible (power efficient over max speed).

Memory: I would prefer 4 slots. running minimum 4 gb

HD : I'll be putting in a 40 gb Kingston SSD Bootdrive for the OS and Apps and some HD for additional storage (don't need high capacity but reliability, speed, low power, must be able to set to never sleep).

Network: ethernet 100/1000

No real video/graphic requirement except compatibility and simplify OS updates. Ease of OS install and update is also a high priority since this will be my first build.

If Apple had a quad core Mini, I would take it. Paying for a 27" display just to get the quad is ludicrous.

Since you have such specific needs/wants, it is probably going to be easier if you research what other people have successfully used on this board, and then see how the hardware you find compares with what you want it to do. Unless someone has made a system similar to what you need, you'll be hard pressed to find someone to do that amount of work for you.

If you have some specific questions regarding hardware, etc.. by all means post here and we'll gladly answer though!

I was hoping that someone was aware of the board that would fit my specific needs. There is something to be said for the minimalism of Apple's offering ...

In any case, for those who have similar requirements as I, here are the boards that I've found that are mATX

Gigabyte; GA-P55M-UD4

Asus; Maxismus 3 Gene ; P7P55-M (not released yet)

Intel: DP55WB; DP55SB

Asrock: P55M Pro

Foxconn: P55MX

There are a few more but I haven't heard of the manufacturers.

I've tried to use the search feature of this site but mostly got errors from the server. When a search did make it through I usually got no found set. Anyone else having a problem with it today?.

So has anyone have any experience with any of the boards mentioned above? Is it safe to assume that the Gigabyte GA-P55M will run with the same configuration as the GA-P55 ?

** Edit**

It seems that the Search function is working again.

I was wondering if there is a mATX motherboard that is compatible with the i7-820QM which only draws 45w (it's designed for laptops)? What about putting a laptop board in an mATX case? It appears that this is the chip that is used in the quad iMac. It would be a lot easier to cool in the small cases.
