How do i know which kext are needed by my system for upgrading to 10.5.5 from 10.5

Hi , kext : how do one know which additional kext one need?

 

I apologize if this question is too basic but i am really struggling with it

 

e.g i am able to install 10.5 os x on my dell

but when i reboot after successfully installing 10.5.5 combo update

i get colored beach ball with os x background (i cannot even click on anything ... in safe mode it does not even lets me enter password means its HANGED)

 

i have been suggested that i need to install dsmos.kext or apple decryptor.ketx (or the new one fakesmc.kext) BEFORE DOING COMBO update

 

But how do i know for certain i need it?

 

And how do i know which additional kext i will need for my hardware?
