royler_g Posted June 6, 2006 Share Posted June 6, 2006 I run 10.4.5 installed from an install DVD. Since I have SSE3 and all the other instructions necessary, I decided to replace mach_kernel with my own base-patched only kernel from Maxxuss 1.0a 10.4.5 patch solution. But when I replaced it and rebooted, OS X wouldn't start ( I got some kind of panic) even though I've checked absolutely thoroughly that I would only need the base patch... Is there something else that needs to be done after replacing it? Remove some other file etc.?? geo2002 Posted June 6, 2006 Share Posted June 6, 2006 if you've replaced original mach_kernel with the new one, you must boot from IndtallDVD, run Terminal from the menu on the top of the screen and run following commands: chown root:wheel /mach_kernel chmod 755 /mach_kernel after this close terminal and run DiskUtils from the menu. Select partition where your MacOSX installed and click on "Repair permissions" button. wait for the process end, eject install DVD and reboot from the HardDrive. The best way is to test new kernel before replacing original with it. Simple copy patched kernel to the root folder (/) with any name (for example, mach_kernel.sse3), change ownership and rights for it and restore permissions. On reboot press F8, then type new kernel file name and if your OS loaded you can replace original kernel. FYI: I've tried to patch kernel from the Myzar DVD to support SSE3 (base patch only) to run it on my laptop but always had kernel panic. I've installed MacOSX 10.4.6 from Jas Install DVD with the native SSE3 support and now it works perfectly. If you want I can mail my mach_kernel to you (send you email address via PM).
