Yes, use Apple Disk Utility to create an 8GB HFS+J partition, then use the "restore" function to clone an installation DVD/image to a partition on your harddrive. And use the latest Chameleon 2.0 to boot it. Is this a windows application or mac? and if its mac only, could I run it whenever I boot from a Leopard disc because I have a copy of iATKOS laying around... And once I use Chameleon, I can boot the partition, install OS X, and then...? Like after the install would I be able to get into the OS? Won't Chameleon be overwritten or something? or is Chameleon a disc that I put in my computer? Beerkex'd Posted October 13, 2009 Share Posted October 13, 2009 Apple Disk Utility is very much an OS X app. You could probably do what I said with a little Terminal wizardry and Disk Utility when booting from an install DVD. But that's complicated - and I don't know how you would boot into the installer afterwards. But I don't understand, because I was looking at your signature and it says you're already running OS X. It's really really easy to prepare a hard drive for installing Snow Leopard from within OSX (any hacked distro that you can get up and running will do just fine). It will also make it considerably easier to tweak the bootloader. You can install Chameleon to the hard drive before installing Snow on it (it won't get overwritten if you install it to the EFI partition) or you can make a Chameleon boot CD and tweak it until it works (use a USB flash drive or a CD-RW). Then install the working configuration on the hard drive once you're happy with it. Type 'VoodooProjects Forum' into google (I can't post the link here) hit the Chameleon forum and start your adventure by reading the documentation and the FAQ. I was going to install Leopard from the iATKOS disc (making 3 partitions), download a copy of snow leopard, restore it, and then install the Chamelon thing? I have a 100gb drive so here was my plan for partitioning 70gb free (snow leopard will be installed here) 20gb (iatos leopard) 10gb free (snow leopard disc) After the install of snow leopard (and verifying that everything works), id remove the iatkox leopard and just resize the 70gb partition to have the extra 20gb. Just be aware that you won't necessarily be able to boot up both 10.5 and 10.6 using the same set of kernel extensions in /extra/extensions. Unless you boot Snow in 32-bit mode, then you can use mostly the same extensions. Anyway Chameleon has a feature where you can make /extra/extensions/10.6 and /extra/extensions/10.5 but I don't think that is the correct syntax, you'll have to go hunting for that information. Before you start playing with 10.6, Install Chameleon first and try to get it to work with your iATKOS install. If something goes wrong in the Chameleon installation you should still be able to use your iATKOS install DVD to boot your iATKOS install, at least in safe mode and fix whatever went wrong. 8GB is enough for the 10.6 install DVD. It's a good idea to keep it like that so that you can always boot from it and fix things using Terminal and/or Disk Utility.
