Doraz
Hi, I have been trying to install Snow Leopard on a VM. I have successfully installed Tiger (10.4.8), and now I need to upgrade/install Snow Leopard to develop applications for the iPhone. The .dmg files work when I mount them in Tiger (install for Snow Leopard comes up). I have tried mounting the dmg files in Alcohol 120% and restarting the VM, tried converting them to a .iso, then mounting them, but I still cannot get the VM to boot (or recognize the boot record for) the image. I have also tried creating a seperate virtual disk, and restoring the image to the disk. I have changed the bios to point to the install disk, but it still will not boot from it. I am able to boot into the Tiger installlation (using an iso and this guide, so I know I'm mounting everything correctly and that my config is working. I have also tried booting up GParted and setting the 'boot' flag on my Snow Leopard Install Virtual Disk, but it refuses to load... I have also tried patitioning the drive with Tiger installed, and restoring the installation DVD there, but still no success (Darwin loads, I hit F8, select the second partition, and it hands)... Does anyone have any other ideas I could try? Am I missing something here? I've tried 2 SL images already, both seem fine... Thanks in advance.... Doraz
Here is where I am in this process: 1) The Install DVD cannot be booted as it was with OS X 10.4.8 (using Alcohol 120% to mount it in windows then share it in VMWare) 2) I created a second virtual disk, restored the .dmg to it (from a 10.4.8 installation I already had). The boot infomration did not work/is not recognized 3) I installed Chameleon 2.0 RC3 (supports Snow Leopard) onto the disk, and that was booted by the VM. I select the Mac OS X boot disk as what I would like to boot, but that fails. (I get a stack fault error w/ the VM set to FreeBSD or Windows NT mode) I am now trying to restore the image again using a different format for the partition to see if it will load. I have tried this tutoral w/out luck: insanelymac Anyone have any more ideas?!? ANYthing but win7
a bit of hope is in these rambling as yet unverifiable directions: http://bughira.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/os-x-1046-under-vmware-workstation-6 There is some speculation that Snow Leopard cannot be installed into a Virtual Machine on XP without less than legal image modification. Two years after some developer musings and still no definitive solution .. lazy programmers http://communities.vmware.com/message/673086 consider also http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vmware_how_to Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/190654-install-snow-leopard-on-vmware-workstation/#findComment-1331414 Share on other sites
