alias007
I recently got leo4all v2 up and running, as well as running into problems. I clearly just kind of jumped into this project without getting a second opinion or doing much research. I think I lack drivers for my motherboards built in wifi, i also believe I lack graphic drivers. during installation there was a check box for some GeForce cards, but I was not listed. So I didnt check any, as a result, leopard runs in a resolution smaller than my monitor. Don't worry I will post my specs M2N32-SLI deluxe motherboard. 4gb Pci-e GeForce 9500 GT (By Gigabyte) 500gb Sata drive and a sata disk drive if that matters. In your opinion what is the best distribution of osx for this build? Any good links to a guide for your recommended distro? I really appreciate the help guys. thank you in advance. srs5694
I have three general comments, which are somewhat contradictory with each other: If your install is basically functional, you might want to consider just upgrading the two drivers you need (for the video and Wi-Fi) rather than upgrade the whole distribution. Distribution choice can be tricky; you might spend hours on other distributions only to find they don't work. Upgrading a couple of drivers is likely to be less time-consuming, although that's not guaranteed, particularly if your device is one that's not well supported. OTOH, Leo4All v2 is pretty old as OSx86 distributions go. It's 10.5.2, IIRC. More recent ones install 10.5.6, at least, and I believe some install even more recent versions than that. Attempting to upgrade 10.5.2 to 10.5.8 is likely to be a tortuous path. If you're happy with 10.5.2, of course, this isn't a big deal. With OS X 10.6 available, you might want to consider installing it instead of any 10.5 release. Unfortunately, the last I heard there were only one or two 10.6 distributions, so you'll need to use Boot-132 or something similar to install from a retail DVD. This might or might not go smoothly. You'll have to judge for yourself how to balance these factors. As to your specific question, I'm afraid I don't know enough about the GeForce 9500GT hardware to offer a suggestion for what to get, nor do I know anything about the M2N32-SLI motherboard's Wi-Fi. I do recall seeing some recent threads about the 9500GT, though. You could try a forum search.... alias007
I'd hardly call this install stable. I turn it on, and it takes around 5 to 6 minutes going through that code to get to the actual mac os. No its not booting from the disk, I took that out. So I'm slightly confused on why it takes so long to boot :/ Thank you for the advice, I'll take it to heart. No its not booting from the disk, I took that out. So I'm slightly confused on why it takes so long to boot :/ You didn't mention the sluggish boot initially. Still, that doesn't make the system unstable, just slow to boot. You may be able to discover what's causing the slow boot by booting with the -v option. This will produce a series of lines of text to appear on the screen during the boot process, telling you what the system is doing as it's booting. If there's a very long pause at some point, or if a string of repetitive messages appears, you can be fairly certain that the problem is related to that item. With any luck, you'll be able to Google it or ask about it here and find a solution, such as an updated driver or a new system setting.
