ralink 2500 PCI works in iAtkos 10.5.5 but not iAtkos v7

PCI wireless w/Ralink 2500 chipset

AHCI enabled in bios

 

I had everything working with iAtkos 10.5.5 - although AHCI was disabled in the bios and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. With 10.5.7 I had to enable it. Anyway, 10.5.5 worked fine and I wanted to get to 10.5.7 in order to run Final Cut Sudio 3.

 

I installed 10.5.7 without a hitch - used a setup guide by BadAxe2 that made it fast and easy. I get in there and I use the Ralink wireless utility driver that worked with 10.5.5, reboot, and no dice. Utility install but it doesn't see my wireless PCI card.

 

Anyone out there have a wireless Ralink 2500 chipset PCI card that has gotten it to work with iAtkos v7? Why would it work with 10.5.5 and not 10.5.7?

 

I've serached the forums and found nothing. Right now, I'm going to attempt to reinstall 10.5.5 and then upgrade to 10.5.6, but 10.5.5 doesn't install nearly as quickly or without as many patches as 10.5.7 does on my system. Also, I've never succeeded at upgrading, so I know this will be another big project. If only I could get the wireless card working on 10.5.7! Very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had a similar problem. I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 and my Ralink wifi worked. Then I upgraded to 10.5.7 and it stopped working. It worked for 10.5.6, but not for 10.5.7

 

I read a bunch of threads and attempted a bunch of things. In the end, I got it to work, but I'm not sure why. Here are the two main things I tried and I'm honestly not sure which worked (or even if either one had any effect):

 

1. IONetworkFamily.kext - I reinstalled it from the original Kalyway distro.

2. Ralink Wireless Drivers - I installed the Ralink Wireless Drivers Installation Wizard.mpkg and the upgrade to v1.5. I think those were already installed with Kalyway and I don't think they were affected by the upgrades, so I'm not sure what this would have done, if anything. (although it is a different icon now for the Ralink app)

 

Besides that, I also variously messed with my wireless settings and restarted many times (with the -f boot flag). Eventually it just worked. It just frustrating that I don't know why.
