popbones
Hello, I've been here a lot when I try to build my own hackintosh machine. The information here helped a lot. So I didn't need to post my problem out before. But this time I run into something really wired for me. I had a iPC 10.5.6 Beta (without any PPF) installed, vanilla kernel is used I think. And I applied 10.5.7 and 10.5.8 updated, and itunes 9 recently. Every thing seems works fine until recently I found that I can not change my folder sharing settings anymore. Background: I had some folders shared before I have this problem through smb. Even now smb still works fine. But the thing is the shared folder list in system preferences share panel is blank now although some folders are shared. And I can not add new share form the "+" button in the panel or from Get Info box of a folder, every time I do that will cause coreservicesd crash. In addition the dark gray box identify if a folder is shared when you open a shared folder in finder never show up anymore. And I found besides the shareing problem I coreservicesd crashed when I create a new user too. It's really confusing for me. Scenario 1 1. Open share panel in system preferences, the shared folder list is empty. 2. Add a new shared folder with the "+" botton. 3. After folder is chosen and confirmed, part of system does not works anymore, e.g apps wound not launch, menu bar freezed. AND the shared folder list still empty. 4. Close system preferences, menu bar disappeared. I can still drag windows that opened before the problem, but keyboard seems do not works. And have to restart with reset button. Scenario 2 1. Select a folder and Get Info (previous shared or not, same thing happens) 2. The Share checkbox is not checked, so check it. 3. System prompt you that file sharing not enabled and give you the options to open system preferences, open or cancel. (but file sharing actually are enabled) 4. If I chose open system preferences, it is the same with S1. 5. So I chose enable, the checkbox is checked now. but seems system started to got problemsame as step3 in S1. 6. Get Info for the same folder angain, found checkbox is not checked, checkit again. menu bar disappered. Scenario 3 1. Open accounts in system preferences. 2. Create a new user (admin or slandered) 3. All seems normal, I had autologin on, so at the last step system will ask if I want keep it enabled. I chose yes. 4. Close system preferences, menu bar disapppered. I investigated my logs, found coreserviced crashed. Below is a crash log for it Process: coreservicesd [90] Path: /System/Library/CoreServices/coreservicesd Identifier: coreservicesd Version: ??? popbones
Forgot to mention that I used to do a full disk defrag with iDefrag on system volume with iPC disk startup Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/188351-coreservicesd-crash-please-help-fixed/#findComment-1277433 Share on other sites
popbones
Did some investigation on system log and found some errors might related to it. 1 Sep 23 00:27:52 localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/coreservicesd[72]: SFLSharePointsEntry::InitializeSPNode: dsOpenRecord returned -14136 Sep 23 00:27:52 localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/coreservicesd[72]: SFLSharePointsEntry::InitializeSPNode: dsCreateRecordAndOpen returned -14135 Those two lines seems to say when try to directory service record but returned not found or exist and when try to create a record encountered record already exist. But I'm not quite sure if this is the problem that coreservicesd encountered. 2 Sep 22 21:08:26 localhost System Preferences[214]: LSSharedFileListInsertItemFSRef returned NULL for path:/Volumes/Storage/TestFolderToShare The return value of the Ref of the path got NULL some how. Any one has the similar problems? popbones
Finally fixed! I did a lot thing to fix it, include rebuild launchService database and other staff. But I think the key is delete some files related to sharepoints in /var/db/nodes/Default. especially **sharpoint*group*.plist (can't remember exact name, but those files there are a lot of them numbered from 1, so you probably won't miss them). Hope my experience could help someone.
