hi guys,

it's me again, the little noob :hysterical:

i've finally managed to install the universal iPC release. i've setup everything and wanted to change resolution to 1650x1050 size... but after i've clicked on the resolution modes, i get the famous blue screen and the desktop disappeared.. i thought it might be because of the nvidia card i have, maybe i didn't choose the right drivers at the install..? the blue screen appears also after reboot.. and i have no idea how to bypass it.. :hysterical:

i've installed the release with voodoo kernel, seatbelt, nvinject 2.1 256, alc883, nforce lan and nforce sata drivers.. everything went smooth while installing, but i guess my ethernet card is not working though :) but later about that when i could at least see something.. :P

so here's my question:

i'd like to know what to do to get get the default screen setings back (which were okay but low res. after the 1st boot) and/or which driver should i use for my gainward nvidia 8600gt 256mb video card so i could set the resolution to the size i want, without blue screen of course? and am i using the right driver?

that would be all! :P

thanks for help in advance!!

hey ubuntu user,

many thanks for your reply.

yep, my card has dual DVI ports. i've tried to switch, but without any results. the screen goes black after the first apple boot logo when trying the 2nd port in safe mode. the 1st port works fine until i change the resolution.

also, because i'm pretty new to OSX, i'd like to know how to install/remove kext files via safe mode or something. that would be great!

thank you!

To install kexts:

  • Copy the your_new_kext.kext to /System/Library/Extensions.
  • Open Terminal and write "sudo chmod -R 755 /System/LibraryExtensions/your_new_kext.kext" without the quotes
  • Enter your admin password
  • Write "sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/your_new_kext.kext"
  • Write "sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache"
  • Write "sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext"
  • Reboot with the -f flag.

Remember tho that if you add NVDarwin you have to delete NVInject or whatever your current video driver (kext) is before you reboot with the -f flag.

  • 5 weeks later...
