Hi all,

So I've decided to build my very own hackintosh. The problem is that I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to OSX. After I built my rig, using Gigabyte mobo (G31M-ES2L), I'm having the hardest time trying to install Leopard (it's 10.5.1 retail).

What I did was:

1. Download and burn to a CD a boot-132 loader.

2. Booted from the CD and then swapped out for the retail DVD.

3. Using the OSX installation procedure, I prepared the Hard drive (but I did not do the GUID partition step, forgot).

4. The installation hung eventually on a screen with an apple on it, so I powered down the machine.

5. When I restarted the rig, I had to boot from the boot-132 CD again to make it boot from the HD.

6. Every time I boot to the HD or the retail DVD again, I get the "You need to restart your computer..." message.

Now, I know I did something wrong. What I don't know is what or where? When trying to read about this problem I get confused with all the kext and other file talk. I've even tried following and online guide for my own mobo, but I can't get past this "You need to restart your computer..." screen.

Could someone please explain to me what exactly is needed when trying to install OSX. Do I need a special version of boot-132? What's a kext? Where does it go or where do I get one?

Also, how do I force a reinstall, or erase my hard drive so I can try again? I installed Ubuntu on the hard drive (even formatting it), but this didn't seem to have any effect and I still see the error screen when booting to the retail DVD.

Thank you for helping out another noob :(
