clearly i'm a newbie here, but wanted to post this so i didnt flood the forum with dumb questions. here are my computer specs:

 

HP Pavilion dv7 notebook

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-72 processor

2.1 GHz

system board- 30FC version 01.99

firmware(bios) F.47

4gb ram

ATI Radeon HD 3200 Grapics

Hitachi HTS543225L9A300 ATA Device-hard drive

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560S

ACPI x64 based PC

 

think that should cover it. i'm running vista right now, x64.

 

 

my question is can my laptop run leopard on it? tired of this vista/xp {censored}.

I've been researching for about 3 straight days and run into a snag with having an AMD processor, all the information i have found is about Intel processors.

 

I've researched Boot 132, insanelymac, OSx86(on here), and still am stumped.

 

any help would be greatly appreciated...and sorry for being a newbie, guess we all got to start sometime.

 

also, my ultimate goal is to be able to turn my laptop on and be set up each time, not have to do any kind of commands or anything....and to run the new Snow Leopard that was just released. Please help. thanks.

anyone able to help on this? should i get more information on my computer? Really want to run Leopard on this laptop. I have a disc of snow leopard brand new, but if that doesnt work, i have quite a few places where i can download OSx86 or whatever is needed. I havent got a clue on all the steps on doing this, so i'm hoping for some help from you guys.

 

i've searched here and google and havent come up with any installs or guides on how to do this on my laptop or a similar laptop. please help. thanks

alright. I found out I'm running SSE3. I have been messing around with the laptop trying to learn as much as i can.

 

I successfully installed Windows 7 on a partition i made. then i was actually able to upgrade it over vista and use the windows update. so i'm getting a little better at this. now i'm trying to get this Leopard up and running.

 

I have no idea(after searching for 2 weeks now and researching) what setup i need to use. I have all the information on what drivers, software, and hardware is on my laptop, i just havent got a clue as to which OSx86 version to try and use.

 

Someone told me Ipc 10.5.6 PPF5 then someone said that wont work and said to use iDeneb, yet again someone said that will not work and to use iAtkos.

 

I'm stumped on which to try. Having my rapidshare account expire is limiting me from downloading all of these and trying one at a time. Can anyone help me out here?

 

Which version should i use for an AMD? I read some people use an AMD patch and some dont; any ideas?

Unless you can get advice from somebody who uses the exact same hardware as you, nobody can say for certain what will or will not work. You'll just have to try the distributions or other installation methods one at a time until something does work (or until you give up in frustration). If you get something that installs and boots, even if it's sub-optimal, you may want to try to optimize it rather than try a new distribution; few installations work perfectly "out of the box," except of course for retail DVDs on Apple hardware.

 

If you want better guidance, get CPU-Z and use it to identify your computer's chipset (northbridge and southbridge, sometimes abbreviated "NB" and "SB"). This combination provides several critical functions, including the hard disk controller, and you must have OS X drivers for the hard disk controller. There are OS X drivers for several common chipsets, but some aren't supported or don't work well in one way or another.

i'll tell you straight up b/c people on here will beat around the bush to give you answers:

 

at least from my experience, none of the latest distros will boot with more than 2 gigs of ram.

I did get leo4allv4.1 to boot and recognize my ram, but it's unstable and gives me kernel panics all the time (when moving large files around, mounting dmg's etc). still, it was way more stable than ideneb10.5.8....which is supposed to be super stable.

 

 

i keep reading all these posts.....and people neglect to tell you very basic things that will save you a huge headache:

1) you have to only have 2 GB of ram installed if you want to boot most of these distros

2) unplug all of your other drives (assuming you're installing mac osx on it's own drive...if not...dont even bother with it b/c you're going to have to reformat that hard drive soo many times it's not even funny..).

3) if you install an OSx one drive, and then try to install another osx on another (say leopard and snow leopard), you can ruin your leopard install by messing up the snow leopard install....

4) dont expect things to work correctly the first time or even the 3rd or expect them to work consistently. try at least 4 times before concluding things dont work, and learn all of the different boot flag commands.

 

 

i was able to get leo4allv4.1. to install without any mouselag on my system:

amd 64x 4200, 6GB ram, 1TB drive, 150Raptor, 500GB drive, 8800gts, IDE plextor dvd burner (non sata).

i can install and boot into ideneb 10.5.8 (if and only if i remove 4 GB of ram)...and even then, it's mouse lag city (it doesn't like the 8800gts cards, apparently). and selecting "mouse lag fix" during the custom install doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

The only information you needed from that was your chipset, which is an AMD 780G/ATI SB700. I've got the same chipset in my main desktop system, but I've never tried installing OS X on it, so I'm afraid I can't help you with OSx86-specific advice.
