SteveO486
So, I'm a complete n00b at this... I friend turned me onto it. He has it running on quite a few machines and I'm impressed. He's out of town for a bit, so I'm on my own. It's not starting off well at all. I believe I found what I needed, but can't even get started. I have 3 files. XP is recognizing them as .rar's, but from what I have read they are ISO's and I can just burn them directly. 1st problem... I try to drop all 3 into Nero to burn to DVD, but the combined total is 4538MB but the available space on the disk is 4482MB. What am I missing here? The files are: iPC_OSx86_Public.part1.rar - 2,097,152 KB iPC_OSx86_Public.part2.rar - 2,097,152 KB iPC_OSx86_Public.part3.rar - 452,631 KB I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get past this point... but a bit of help getting at least the disk burnt would be appreciated. srs5694
Judging by the filenames, the files you've got are .rar files. This is an archive format that's designed to enable splitting an archive into multiple parts. You must unrar the files you've got to do anything with them. Once you do this, you'll probably have an .iso file, or perhaps that plus some documentation. I'm not familiar with Windows .rar software, so I can't make any recommendations, but try Googling "Windows rar" or something similar to find some pointers. Areku
winrar  lol open part 1 pull it to your desktop it will pull part 1 part 2 and part 3 to make the files whole. then you should have an ISO to burn. i use poweriso to burn and mount ISOs Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183581-complete-n00b-i-could-use-a-hand/#findComment-1247910 Share on other sites

I tried unpacking them.. They ended up being: #1 iPC_OSx86_Public.iso 4,508,840KB #2 iPC_OSx86_Public.iso 4,508,840KB #3 iPC_OSx86_Public.iso 4,508,840KB Now twice the size of the rar's.. ?? winrar  lol open part 1 pull it to your desktop it will pull part 1 part 2 and part 3 to make the files whole. then you should have an ISO to burn. i use poweriso to burn and mount ISOs Oh... I unpacked them and sent them to individual directories, but all contain the same file, same size. So I guess now I have 3 copies of the same iso? I feel like a complete moron now. I didn't realize that when I unpacked the one rar, it unpacked them all. Lets give it a whirl! Thanks for the help guys.
