I installed xcode on my SL 10.6.2 and after that I am getting kernel panics. I am also struggling to do a safeboot but no success. I am using the Darwin/x86 boot v5.0.132 - Chameleon V2.0-RC2 r boot loader.

After I boot I pick the partition/ dics where my OSX install is. After moving the arrow key to the partition now I use the down arrow key. Here I see options like Boot, Boot with verbose, Boot as single user, Boot Ignore caches, memore info, video info and finally help. Nowhere I see the safe boot option.

Reading this post I tried typing -x but nothing happened :hysterical:

Please help as I need to boot in safe mode and then remove chud which is causing kernel panic fpr me

Just start typing, the prompt will appear on the first keystroke.

If you press the down arrow to select boot options you have to press ESC first to leave that menu in order to invoke the prompt.

If that's not it, I really don't know why it isn't working for you.

When I'm at the boot GUI where I can select which drive/partition to boot, I use the arrow keys to select the partition I want, then I just start typing and the prompt immediately appears at the bottom left of the screen.

Obviously your keyboard is working otherwise you wouldn't be able to select a partition. And I don't think there is any boot flag that disables the ability to invoke the command line.. so.. this is a true mystery.
