Hi, I'm trying to install iPC on my dell Dimension 9200 with "raid on" option activated (as I already have Vista installed...). After the installation, at boot, I have the "classic" error "waiting for root device". I've read inside the osxWiki that, to keep the "raid on" selected, I need to add this:

<key>ICH8RAHCI</key>

<dict>

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort</string>

<key>Chipset Name</key>

<string>ICH8-R AHCI</string>

<key>IOClass</key>

<string>AppleAHCI</string>

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

<string>0x28218086 0x28228086</string>

<key>IOProbeScore</key>

<integer>2000</integer>

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IOPCIDevice</string>

<key>Vendor Name</key>

<string>Intel</string>

</dict>

inside the AppleAHCIport.kext. Here's the problem: how to do that? Rember that I cannot boot in OSX...

Please give me some help with step by step procedure...

Thanks

This is quite hard as MacOSX wont recognise the Raid setup of the Dell! If you remove it in the BIOS or try and add it via a method of UUID's from a post somewhere here, MacOSX will still see it as two seperate drives!

You have two choices:

1) Remove the RAID, ie split your drives so that you have two 250GB instead of one 500GB and install the OS'es seperately on each drive, using your BIOS to choose from which drive to boot from.

2) Add another drive to the extra SATA ports you have and install OSX onto that, once again using your BIOS to choose from which drive to boot from.

You will have to move your DVD drive to a lower SATA to allow the 3rd drive to be on SATA no 3!

Thanks for the reply. I have to clarify better the situation. The PC has 2 hard disk. They are NOT in RAID (of any type) but, inside the Dell BIOS, there's an option selected by default to activate the RAID mode in any case, also without have a real RAID array, to improve performance... Sorry for my bad english. I hope it's clear enough... So I have to modify the AppleAHCIport.kext to see of it's work...

If you don't have the drives setup as a RAID 0/1 as in one big drive but as two separate drives, then it is rather straight forward!

If you see two drives in Windblows, like, C: and D:, make sure there is nothing important on D: drive as you will have to erase it!

I like to unplug the Windows drive before I start, that way you can't overwrite it!

Now, set the BIOS from RAID to RAID/Auto this will let you get past the waiting for root device error. Install MacOSX to the Drive you have connected.

Once you have everything up and running and you have edited the AppleAHCIport.kext, change the BIOS back to RAID and boot to see if it is working, then......

Reconnect your Windblows drive and use your BIOS to choose from which drive you would like to boot from(I think it is F12)

here's a link to all the file I used for mine including the kext to change the AHCI port, you can use Kexthelper to install it!

I have importand data in both C: and D: :( My plan was to install OSX inside a partition on the C disk (with vista...).... So I'm at a dead point? What about install OSX inside the partition (and with raid on) and then modify the appleahciport.kext or copy the new one with terminal from boot dvd? Do you think it's possible?

SOLVED! Installed OSX inside c:\ partition with Raid=auto ATA. Then, from OSX, installed your modified AppleAHCIport.kext, rebooted, changed bios to RAID ON and everything is working. Thanks you so much!

PS: I've installed just your AppleAHCIport.kext. Do I need to install all the kext inside your zip?

You can't just do Updates!!

Remember everything you changed, changes back to original, then you have to redo everything! All the Patches, all kexts you inserted!

No way! I've installed the updates and now I cannot boot in any mode (RAID on or ATA).... What can I do now?

Ok, now I've used the Ideneb update combo package and everything is ok. However, under "about that mac" I see "processor: 4,3Ghz Unknown". On my Dimension 9200 I have a quad core q6700. What's wrong? I see inside your zip file that you have many kext. I used just the AHCIport one. Do I need to use the others to have the CPU detected correctly? It is dangerous for the CPU? How can I monitor the CPU temperature?

Thanks again!

Run this it should fix it....
