j3computers
Hello All, This is probably a very stupid question for you guys but here it is... I am new to all this and after looking around google I found this site to be the best when it comes to this topic.. I have a XPS435MT running Windows 7. My first question is can I dual boot Windows 7 and OSX86 ? If I can't it's ok I just want to learn how to do it both ways.. A dual boot or just one os. Here are my hardware specs: Processor: Manufacturer Intel® Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz Clock Speed 2.7GHz L2 Cache Size 1024 Motherboard: I've been trying to look for the model of the mobo that came with my system but since it's only about 6 months old I don't want to open it up and void the warranty. I'm pretty sure there is a way of checking that without opening the case but I don't know it... Ram Memory: 6GB Ram Video Card: ATI 4670 512MB If in fact there is a way that I can do this which thread should I follow? Thanks in advance to anyone that responds. srs5694
Yes, it's possible to dual-boot Windows 7 and OS X. I believe there are motherboard-identification tools out there on the Web, but I don't happen to have any URLs handy. Even knowing this information might or might not be all that helpful; there are about a bazillion different motherboard models, so it's unlikely you'll find other people who've installed OSx86 to a specific model. You'll have better luck finding compatibility information based on the motherboard's chipsets, which can be identified via the hardware settings control panel in Windows. (I don't recall precisely what it's called.) Pay particular attention to the disk controller, video controller, and network chipsets.
