torifile
I just built my hackintosh and I can't seem to get my ATI card working. I've followed the directions in the first post here and it just won't work. I installed a vanilla 10.5.6 using Boot132. Updated to 10.5.8 and I get a garbled screen at reboot. Usually white with black checkered throughout. I can "see" something moving if I move the mouse so I'm pretty sure it's a video problem. When I boot into single user mode and "rm -r ATI*" and reboot, I can get into OS X. 10.5.8 is installed but I'm stuck at 1024x768 video. I tried installing the ATI drivers - the ones that have been linked to around the net - and the ATI enabler. When I reboot, I get a black screen. Again, if I delete those ATI files, I can get into OS X. I've tried doing a safeboot, but when in verbose mode so I can see what it's doing, I get a "Failed to start CPU 01. Rebooting" message. I'm running a Gigabyte EP45-DS4P Core 2 Quad Q9550 Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4870 (1 gig version) The only thing I can think of at this point is that my card is non-reference and just won't work with OS X because I've seen people get this same config working with a different brand 4870. One more thing I'm going to try is to reinstall the OS X 10.5.8 update and go into safeboot and just do the ATI Enabler. But any other ideas? torifile
For anyone interested, I've determined that the Gigabyte version of the 4870 is not compatible with OS X. Again, the Gigabyte 4870 does not work. No amount of hackery would get it working. I even flashed it and it just left me with a bricked video card. Thankfully I had backed up the ROM and could get it working again. I'm now happily running a Diamond 4890 and it works almost perfectly (still working on QE/CI support). One more time, for teh google spiders: The Gigabyte 4870 does not work in a Hackintosh. Hopefully that'll save someone hours of frustration trying to get it to work. Tigerbull
I had the same problem. The patch from the following link helped me: http://rapidshare.de/files/47335568/Enable..._cards.pkg.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180785-problems-with-ati-4870/#findComment-1234230 Share on other sites
sbanawan
I had the same problem. The patch from the following link helped me: http://rapidshare.de/files/47335568/Enable..._cards.pkg.html With the gigabyte board? It doesn't work. Believe me, I've tried everything. The Gigabyte version of the 4870 does not work. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180785-problems-with-ati-4870/#findComment-1234231 Share on other sites

torifile
Well I have it in my system running. So times have changed I guess. You have a Gigabyte 4870 running in your hackintosh? And actually operating as expected? I don't believe you, honestly. Got a screenshot? strats37
I used the ATI HD option when installing the iDeneb v1.6 10.5.8 lite and it worked after I played with the output I was using. The DVI port won't output anything and I tried the HDMI port with the dongle to DVI and it worked. I am not sure if the display port works or not as I haven't tried it. I am sure you can figure out something to make it work. MeAngry
You can get a Radeon 4870 with a non-reference board working, but not 100% natively. It's the same case with the Radeon 4890, because that's also not officially supported, there has never been an 4890 for Apple machines. ATY_init and EVOenabler do give you the possibility to use such cards, but you'll have issues like sleep not working, like I have.
