AndyB
Hi! I`ve been planning to install OSX on my laptop for a long time, but what was stopping me is the lack of wireless drivers for my Intel 4965. Now with Project Camphor successfully working on intel wireless drivers, I might give hackintosh a shot. I did a research and found that most of my hardware is supported, so drivers should not be a big problem. What really concerns me is Performance of Hackintoshes. I have an Acer 7720g: Core2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz 3GB RAM Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Nvidia 8600M GT Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AGN Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet Realtek ALC268 Audio @ Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) Ricoh Card Reader Acer CrystalEye webcam Blue Ray DVD (i don`t remember which one, though ) It is pretty powerful, but i was wondering - will OSX perform well on it? How well do Hackintoshes run, comparing to real Mac Books? Will its performance suffer and be slower than my Arch Linux + OpenBox that i`m using right now? I know that to get the best out of OSX i have to buy a Mac Book, but i don`t want to spend 2,5k dollars on something i might not like, so i want to check hackintosh first. Any feedback would be appreciated. P.S. sorry if such topic already exists, couldn`t find anything similar. Bug
You can't tell the difference... It's fast and stable once you get it all sorted out. It looks like you're in luck; http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=170433 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179079-hackintosh-performance/#findComment-1221894 Share on other sites
Neilis
It's no better or worse than a real Mac with equivalent specs. OS updates/upgrades have the potential to mess up the system, but with that exception if you keep the computer under the desk you'll literally not be able to tell the difference. Specifically, on that hardware you should be fine. The desktop I run OSx86 on is a little slower on most everything with the exception of video card, and it literally screams. Much faster than Linux on equivalent hardware (though I think this will eventually change - OSS is a good development model and if we can EVER kick X11 out the door then I see Linux becoming an eventual GUI speed-demon - I'm hoping DirectFB might catch on eventually).
