Hey everyone, I recently picked up a Dell Vostro 400 and now have a completely working 10.5.7 machine. Here is how I did it:

Specs:

Mobo: g33m02 with onboard audio, realtek RTL8110SC driver

Video: nVidia 8600GT PCI Express addon card with driver from this message board -- automatic installer...

LAN: 3rd Party card I had lying around with the RTL8110SC chip.

All in All the computer is a Dell Vostro 400 and I have 10.5.7 running a vanilla install of iPC 10.5.6 and then an Apple update to 10.5.7 with only having to update the LAN and Sound drivers. I then updated the nVidia kext files and now have QE running fully.

I had a hell of a time getting everything to work so if you have a Dell Vostro 400 you can MSG me and I will let you know anything I can to get this to work. The biggest problem was the LAN kext files, which only worked once I installed a 3rd party NIC. Other than that, Everything worked right off the bat from my 10.5.6 iPC install and the only kext i had to resinstall with osx86tools was the AC888 kext.

Now that I've done that, I have a $3500 Mac for about $40.00 plus my iLife/OSX purchase and things I had around the house.

If I can help you, I will be glad to if you have my same hardware. This community is such a great resource. I commend all of you.

Could you provide your kext file for the sound card ALC888?

I have the same computer.
