rsdgrdgeg
Hi guys, Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. I have a vanilla kernel hackintosh with an EP45-D3SL board (works fine for almost everything) apart from any full screen Flash. For instance, the mac Hulu application will kernel panic after a while, as will my flash based screensaver. It's not immediate, but after a varying length of time. It may not be flash that has the problems, rather the 8600GT 256MB that I'm using, although I'm not completely sure. I'm wondering if anybody is familiar with this pattern of problem. I'm using the normal EFI keys hack. Any light on this would be great. scalar
I've actually got a problem with flash atm even if it's not playing but just loaded in firefox. I usually leave tabs open until I can get to them but if it's a video clip the machine will KP in 10-20 mins quite predictably. gtx285 w/ nvidia drivers & netkas's most recent injector. Chameleon 2 rc2, I & updated to 10.5.8 using the iDeneb installer (because I'm lazy) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179017-kernel-panic-with-flashfull-screen-video/#findComment-1221708 Share on other sites
scalar
So I've been quite predictably having even non-video flash sites lock this computer, I don't even always get to see a KP message, the machine will just hang. FF3.52 seems much worse than Safari, but that may just be because I use so many tabs in FF in comparison to Safari. scalar
I believe the KP source is an AppleHDA issue with my 10.5.8 update. Need to resolve that elsewhere, keep it muted now or I get KP from flash videos etc. Updated flash to latest manually and still occurs, so I am currently trying the AppleHDA.kext found in this post (my filesize was same as his, 1.2Mb) and so far it works fine although it doesn't show properly in System Profiler. Flash also seems to not like QuartzGL being enabled, Flash ads that have transparency are kicking up errors in Console (ie, the kind that overlay existing pages for their Ad.) Am using nvidia drivers for my gtx285 so I've gone back to working with QuartzGL disabled, don't need gaming performance just enough for audio apps. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears on either issue (QuartzGL issues and the System Profiler HD Audio info not showing up.) rsdgrdgeg
It's funny that you should say that. I was thinking the same thing last night. Long story short, I reinstalled Mac OSX with slightly different AppleHDA kexts, and will test the machine out properly after my time machine backup restore is complete Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179017-kernel-panic-with-flashfull-screen-video/#findComment-1225962 Share on other sites
scalar
Let us know how that works out. I might skip the QuartGL issues for now (although I can see a huge difference in onscreen performance) and just focus on DSDT.aml+Extra fixes on a new install later, so that I can get some work done now. I've spent 2 weeks and aside from the typical firewire errors in console and QuartzGL things seem surprisingly stable compared to past installs. Even have my MS keyboard's extra keys working and all midi interfaces etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179017-kernel-panic-with-flashfull-screen-video/#findComment-1226428 Share on other sites
scalar
Well that HDAudio fix is stable here, can listen to FLAC/MP3's for hours with iTunes (or Cog for FLAC) and no KP. Was even running flash movies alongside Logic to watch the new features, and everything is fine. If I enable QuartzGL I get some quick screen 'black' flashes when Flash is playing, looking in console shows quartzgl crashes & throws up a bug before redrawing (restarting) the screen, but as I said I've disabled that for now... rsdgrdgeg
I have an update. After reinstalling the operating system, and trying different kexts (patching and then replacing kexts) I have had a much more stable system whilst watching hulu (touch wood) I enclose the kexts for the motherboards A888 chipset. Follow the instructions to the word. Mine worked after multiple restarts Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/179017-kernel-panic-with-flashfull-screen-video/#findComment-1228011 Share on other sites
scalar
Well the AppleHDA patch that I used above did reduce my KP's from more than one an hour to maybe once or twice a day, but it didn't eliminate it. I've bypassed it in system preferences and have my RME assigned for all audio i/o atm and that's stopped the KP's. Will perhaps try VoodooHDA later...
