Hi Everyone,

I'll try and make this short and sweet. :)

After being able to install iATkos V7 onto my pc and finding that I couldn't get usb support, I downloaded Lawless as I'm running an AMD Quad core system.

The installation runs smoothly and successfully, however, when it boots up, it seems to slow right down and hangs on various Code Signing error (eg. cs_invalid_page: 249[llsave} etc..). This happens when using flags -v, -f and -X.

I've tried installing with various configurations such as with Via and SB kext and NForce, but I'm still getting this issue. (I've tried with and without adding network/sound/video drivers).

If anyone has the following motherboard and have successfully installed LawLess onto their pc, please advise what configuration you used?

System:

Phenom 9500 Quad Core

GA-MA790X-DS4

Gigabyte 8600GT 512MB

320GB SATA HDD - WINDOWS

1TB SATA HDD - MAC PARTITION

4GB Kingston Hyperix 1066mHz RAM

2 x Liteon DVD bruners (SATA)

BIOS - AHCI enabled

Thanks! :D

Hi All!

Well I ended up working things out on my own, and now 48 hours on, I've got a fully functional AMD quad core Hackintosh, with sound, ethernet, usb 2.0, wireless usb adapter and dual booting with Vista x64 all on the go

So if you came here looking for a solution, here's the steps I went through... (For straight list of config for this motherboard look towards the end of the post).

LAWLESS PPC

First up, I used LawlessPPC to install on my pc (the config I used is shown at the end of this post). Installation appeared to work fine, however, I wasn't able to boot past the grey screen. Turns out that no matter what flag (including RD=DISK1S2) I entered into Darwin bootloader (from cd boot up), it wasn't actually running my harddrive as the drive I was using was not my master (this didn't have an affect when I used iAtkos v7). I ended up going into my bios settings and switching the hard drive from slave to master, rebooted and voila, Chameleon appeared and Mac OS account setup came up :blink:FYI - I was planning on having vista control the bootloader - thus the MAC harddrive was set on slave, but I have since decided to keep chameleon as it was faster.

Now if you are happy to work from this distro, then you'll need to add the sound drivers for the ALC889A on-board sound. Use Kext Helper (which comes pre-installed with Lawless, find it in Utilities) to install. It worked immediately before I rebooted. I found that you need to have a password set on your account for these drivers to work.

Secondly, if you are using a wireless usb adapter, then you'll need to get hold of the correct kext for it. I'm using the Netgear WG111 v3. This uses the Realtek 8187B chipset, however, I found that as I'm using a secured modem with WPA2, this utility was too unstable. Netgear have actually released a Mac driver for this unit (find it on their website). This works perfectly, just remember to remove the Realtek utility if you have already installed it.

Oh, and to get usb working, make sure that you have disabled Legacy USB in the bios and/or EHCI USB support. I found that for Lawless, my USB ports had to work as 1.1 not 2.0, EHCI would cause it to crash. There are drivers out there to help solve this, but I ended up changing my distro after trying this out for 30 minutes

Updating the kernal to voodoo 9.7 was quite easy too.

iAtkos V7 AMD

Now, I originally had tried iAtkos v7 with success to get the OS booting up, but my USB's were a no go and everything else seemed to just not work. But after working things out successfully with Lawless, I threw the iAtkos disc right back into my pc to have a crack at it. My reasoning for this was a) it's a newer version (10.5.7) and :) I refuse to be beaten by a machine :P

First up, installation. I kept my mac harddrive as master, but I changed my usb settings to enable EHCI - Legacy support wasn't needed so I disabled this. Now I never really had an issue of this installing, however, if you have similar specs to me, and seem to be getting kernal panics, please check out the config I used (see below) and make sure that your disc was burnt at the slowest speed and verified. I made the mistake of letting Nero burn at max speed, and that caused a lot of headaches when installing initially.

So, hopefully you've installed and rebooted. Try and eject the dvd before rebooting, so that Chameleon v2 comes up. Immediately its picked up my vista installation and my Mac installation

For me, the initial boot up into Leopard takes between 5-10 mins. I've done so many installs of iAtkos over the past few weeks that I'm pretty used to the waiting game of this first boot.

Once it's booted into your desktop (after going through the account setup), I then proceeded to install some of the necessities such as Kext Helper (as I found this incredibly helpful since I was getting issues with Terminal permissions), macOSXTools and installing the Netgear wireless kext. I found that the usb's were working at 1.1 during this first boot. So I also installed Itunes 8.2 as it updates the USB kext.

On the second reboot, I found that the USB's were working. My display had also set itself up properly automatically this time round too. Wireless adapter may need to be unplugged before booting up and plugged in once you get into desktop for the wireless utility to register and add itself into the network profile. I don't need to do this for any further boots.

You can enable quartz with MacOSXTools at this stage too.

Next up was sound. This took me AGES to figure out, as I had tried so many methods found on the forums. So hopefully this will prevent you from using your precious time doing the same thing:

Remove any kexts such as voodooHDA and ALC889A from your extensions folder. I did not choose any sound drivers in my install, however, it seems to install voodoo regardless :thumbsup_anim:

Install the ALC889A kexts with Kext Helper, and install CMI8738PCIAudioDriver kext with kext helper too. Reboot. Now, if you don't have sound still, then install the HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext with kext helper. I found that installing them the second time works a treat - reboot.

Oh, and check your sound properties, as mine defaulted to headphones instead of speakers when I initially installed it.

So you should have sound once you have rebooted. I did find that I had an occasional kernal crash when I was testing the various methods to get the sound to work, however, a straight reboot worked the second time round. I was frustrated getting the sound to work after it was sssssoooo easy with Lawless.

So now you should have a fully functional Hackintosh. My OS recognised ethernet and the cores perfectly as the config I used seemed to solve those issues.

And now I'm watching my tv shows fro my Mac:D
