apple_core
World, I'm just about ready to order the components for my machine. I've read over a lot of the tutorials and how-tos mentioned on this site. Weaksauce12 has got a great step by step guide to getting OS X installed. Based on compatibility I've chosen the Intel Q6600 Quad, Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, nVidia 8800GT 512 video card (other stuff like Cooler Master 690, Noctua fans, etc., etc.) My question is that my retail copy of OS X is the original retail DVD distribution, ie., version 10.5.0. Can I still use such an old distribution considering that other newer version retail disks have been available for a while (I mean will Weaksauce12's install tools and packages work with such an old release)? Weaksauce also mentions downloading the combo point update and install it after you've booted into OS X the first time. Is it possible to have the combo point upgrade installed at the time that you do the initial install? Such that you don't have to boot into 10.5.0 and then do the upgrade? Thanks heaps and stacks.
