blipbeep
What is the cheapest and most compatible setup for osx86? I do development, safari/firefox, iterm, and itunes. I have a Dell widescreen with DVI. Intel or AMD is fine. I just want the thing to work (input devs, network, sound, and video). Pentium D 805 support would be nice. I know some people have figured out how to pull this off with sub $200 systems Am I just crazy? Is running an authorized system for itunes just crazy? munky
get an intel 945 board with onboard GMA950 graphics and sigmatel 9220 (Note: NOT 9223 or 9200) audio and you're laughing. it'll support your Pentium D and the graphics card will be fully supported. (as good as a mini or macbook ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17800-cheapest-most-compatible-setup/#findComment-115380 Share on other sites
blipbeep
Ok, for a 945 board, here are the options I've found for others who may read this: The first neat board, AOpen i945GTm-VHL Socket 479 Intel 945GT Micro ATX. It runs about $240 retail. It is a Micro ATX, has firewire, and DVI on the board. The board is socket 479, so that means Core Duo or Core Solo. Realtek Audio. Searching on Newegg, there are about 11 boards for the 945 with the 950 video. Half do the LGA775 socket and the others do the Core Solo/Duo. They range from $90 to $150 (if not counting the AOpen above). Most of the boards are Intel, but there are a few Gigabyte, Asus, and AOpen boards in there. It would still be good to find some prebuilt system that fits the bill Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17800-cheapest-most-compatible-setup/#findComment-115461 Share on other sites
