jindusingh
Hello everyone. I currently have a desktop Hackintosh and need a second one for use primarily as a HTPC. The priorities are for it to have a smaller form factor and be relatively quiet and inexpensive. Please give some suggestions for components. So far I have come up with the following: Case --- not sure yet PSU --- Corsair VX450W Mobo --- GA-G31M-ES2L CPU --- C2D prob e7200 GFX --- 9600GT ?? Fanless RAM --- 4gb Any suggestions would be great. thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176577-help-with-htpc-build/ Share on other sites

I am running a fanless Sparkle 9400 GT in my new Hack I put together last nite and its about perfect. Plays 1080P content like a champ and of course silent. Plus I would think the 9400 GT would put out less heat than the 9600 therefor being easier to cool the case and keep it silent. Plus its quite a bit cheaper, too. Other than that, good looking hardware assortment. I am not sure what type of case you are wanting to use (tower, desktop), but I can recommend the Cooler Master Elite 341 mini tower. I am running my ES2L rig in one and stock out of the box its a fairly quite case with the included 120mm fan. And its a small case too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...Tpk=elite%20341 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176577-help-with-htpc-build/#findComment-1209654 Share on other sites

In terms of the case I was looking for something that would match AV components in form factor .. is there a lower cost alternative to the Antec nsk2480 ?? Thanks. Zaap
Take your pick in the price/feature range you're looking for. Just remember, quality varies wildly, and usually a HTPC case that's silent will tend to cost more- or spend some $ replacing the fans in a lower rated case with better ones. Read the various user review pros and cons carefully, and also watch out for low-profile requirements vs. full sized cases.
