I'm sorry about your girlfriend's loss. Here are two things you can do -

 

1. You can reset the user password using this method: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?sto...080414140636495

or

2. (Easier) Boot into the install disk and do a clean install of the OS. Since she'll be a completely new user this will probably be best, as it will clear any settings/files/personal documents the previous owner left.

I like your second option. BUT. Problem. Although the mac is totally and utterly legit. Her dad worked at a mall in Minneapolis as head of security and they have a mac store there at the mall and in a cell phone store that got vacated literally over night they left the mac in there hasty absence. So needless to say her dad was good friends with manager at the mac store and lets say that he "loaded" him with a install of mac and we dont have a cd. yeah big issue. Now I know u guys do x86 do those cds work or can I not say that on here.
