The last three boot-ups:

1st) Only a blue desktop background that i couldn't change, and no mounted drives appearing. The normal toolbars on top and bottom looked and worked fine.

2nd) This time the desktop background showed up, but still no mounted drives.

3rd) This time the mounted drives showed up, but only the blue background (that I couldn't change).

I didn't try changing anything between these boots, however a couple of boots ago I tried unsuccessfully adding/changing the graphics mode setting in com.apple.boot.plist. I changed it back, and rebooted with '1st' above.

More history:

For the longest time the system acted like #3 above. It Started after I installed iLife, but it seemed to fix itself after re-installing iLife.

System: G31M-ES2L mobo and core 2 duo. Using on-board GMA 3100 graphics. Booter is Chameleon 2. Installed with iPC 10.5.6

[Update]: With ten more reboots, it switches between case 3 and 1. I haven't seen case 2 again. I know this probably isn't enough information to diagnose the problem, but I'm not sure where to look to aid with troubleshooting... ;)

[Update 2]: I uninstalled iWeb (only iWeb, nothing else) and rebooted. Desktop and drives all appeared! I reinstalled iWeb, rebooted, and saw case #2 again. Now reboots are usually case 3, but sometimes case 1. I'm so confused. The reason I uninstalled iWeb is because it never displayed anything but blank screen in the work area. Is this related?

Apparently the problem with iWeb is related to QE/CI.

I added the following to my boot.plist file:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>"Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"</string>

but instead of working to change my display resolution, it started to show the desktop background and mounted drives! Can anyone explain why that would be?
