fatdogs12
Okay so here is my situation. I am looking to build a hackintosh almost exclusively for iPhone development. I may do minor video editing at times but nothing serious. My biggest concern is just having things working with as little hassle as possible and hopefully the ability to upgrade the OS as time goes on with a smaller likelihood of things not working. So basically I just wanted a simple, cheap and functional hackintosh. I have a power supply and hard drive. So basically what I need now is a cheap MOBO, Ram, processor (though I understand this isn't a big factor in getting things working), and possibly a graphics card. I already bought a G41M ES2L board and ram for it (though it's un opened so I can return it). I didn't really know if it was good a good fit compatibility wise for a hackintosh as I understand the sound doesn't work). As far as the graphics card I just want something cheap, I will never be playing games on it so that isn't an issue. So again the cheif concern is having something that will be the most compatibility, and second is price. I'm willing to pay if it works well without a lot of tinkering, but I also could live with something that just works but is cheap. What do you guys think? TomCom
Cheapest: Nvidia 7300, then 8400GS and 9400GT. There are dozens of threads about low-end hackintoshes. Do your homework and use the search tool right to the logo, man! Do your homework and use the search tool right to the logo, man! As I said compatibility is my primary concern and I wasn't just asking about graphics cards. I'm talking mostly about Mobos really. I have searched quite a bit but I haven't really found any great mobo options and mostly what I want to know is if there are a set of mobos that are known to be among the best for compatibility Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/174756-looking-to-build-a-super-cheap-hackintosh/#findComment-1199699 Share on other sites
Zaap
You gotta understand, this same question gets asked a thousand times a month- therefore it's been answered thousands of times. There are numerous threads on 'cheap hackintoshes' and what motherboards to use, not to mention the HCL list, etc. It doesn't take any exhaustive search, just a casual glance through this forum to find most of this information. That out of the way- if you have the G41M ES2L, that is a great board to use for Hackintosh. I have a system based around it. Basically, you can set it up using the same guide as Kaido/Weaksause12's for the G31M-ES2L. I found that everything from that works besides ethernet, and audio. I got the ethernet working using the same ethernet kext for the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. For sound, just use this $8 USB audio adapter- it sounds better than the onboard audio anyway. As for cheap video, just like TomCom said, go with one of those choices. Also- since you already have a hard drive- make sure it's SATA. I don't recommend PATA drives- they can cause random kernel panics on some hardware. Ditto for the optical drive- stick with SATA and dump all legacy stuff if possible.
