BlackScar
Hey guys, I've been a silent observer over the past few months and recently got a Toshiba Tecra A7-S712 Laptop to help me out with my work. All my USB ports/devices work perfectly in Windows. They also worked in 10.4.1. However, when I upgraded to 10.4.6, it doesn't work anymore. I would go back down to 10.4.1, but now my Firewire works perfectly in FCP as well as my sound. I've tried using the 10.4.3 IOUSBFamily.kext with 10.4.6, doesn't work. I've disable Legacy Support in my bios, doesn't work. The only error message it gives me is with AppleUSBEHCI.kext saying that it cannot get control from BIOS? I'm really at a loss at what to do. I think I got my VIN/PID numbers from Windows for the USB controller, but not sure where to put them. In the system profiler on the MacOSX, it shows the USB BUSes and even shows that I have a BIOMETRIC Fingerprint device on my laptop (which I do), but nothing else. I've tried my mouse/keyboard and harddrives. Nothing. Like I said, my firewire works perfectly. Has anyone experienced this or something similar? All thanks in advance. I've spent many nights on this. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17362-usb-not-working-1046/ Share on other sites
BlackScar
ok, some more testing and new information gained. It seems that if I use the 10.4.1 IOUSBFamily.kext... I get an error saying that it cannot alloc AppleUSBUHCI and that AppleUSBUserClient cannot load. It also affects my audio kexts causing them to fail. This is with legacy on and off. The USB Bus information also disappears from the system profiler. However, when I put it back to 10.4.5 kext... it again says it cannot gain control from BIOS...AppleUSBEHCI.... with legacy on or off. Yet its visible in the system profiler. Same thing when I try 10.4.3 kext. It also says that it finds four usb bus.... but why can't I use them? fasthonda450r
Im running an Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe board, and mine also says the same thing. Cant take control from bios USBEHCI error. At boot up when it list all the stuff on the black screen, it says cant take control of EHCI or take ownership from Bios. It says this about 7 times. Hopefully someone can find the answer to this. PS im using MYZAR 10.4.4 with automatic update to 10.4.5. at this point USB still dont work. Ive also updated to V3 update 10.4.6 and still no USB same panic error:( Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17362-usb-not-working-1046/#findComment-112085 Share on other sites

I thought I read where that isn't possible as only 10.4.3 kexts and up only work. This is how I repair in Terminal: sudo -s sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17362-usb-not-working-1046/#findComment-112295 Share on other sites

BlackScar
Ah, thats ok. Thanks for the reply. Fasthond450r - So you've also tried everything? The 10.4.3 kexts and disabling legacy support in bios? BlackScar
Ok, so I tried using wingrub to boot me from winxp to OSX86 darwin. I thought that maybe it would change things since 10.4.1 was loaded this way without problems but no... grrrr Is there any fixes for this? Like can I use a mini pci card with usb ports or anything to get this working? BlackScar
Ok, so I downgraded to 10.4.1 and tried my luck again with audio. I figured that having usb was better than having just the audio fixed, especially when I can get a cheap usb audio card. However, I loaded Cryana's 945g drivers and VOILA! Audio is working great. Same ALC861 problems, ie volume slider is greyed out but my laptop can be adjusted as well as my speakers/programs. So I guess a solution... just sucks that Final Cut Pro's firewire video and realtime editing worked perfectly and now doesn't. Oh well, I guess that's what you get.
