I am about to make a switch from Windows to OSX Leopard as my primary OS. I am currently dual booting and becoming tired and fed up of Windows as i find it always crashes and has other problems, so i've decided to make a switch to OSX. My main problem is I will miss some of my Windows programs and the Windows way of doing things. Any tips for an easier switchover and any Mac alternatives for common Windows software would be appreciated.

You won't miss much. iWork has compatibility with MS Word and Powerpoint and stuff... I wouldn't get Office for Mac because apparently its terribly unstable... just another {censored} M$ product. If you find that there are Windows apps you absolutely must have, download Sun's VirtualBox and run it in a virtual machine. Also check out Darwine, it lets you run Windows apps using the WINE framework.

But remember, if you play Windows games, these solutions won't work as games are terribly slow in Wine and VPCs. Personally I have found OS X alternatives to nearly every Windows program out there. =)

EDIT: Actually, I forgot about CrossOver Games. It runs games at a pretty good clip and integrates them seamlessly into OS X, you can put them on the dock and everything is pretty smooth. I had the demo at some point and was impressed at how well it worked.

Im not a hardcore gamer so I miss nothing from there.

Also all the games I used to play more often are available as native application for Mac OS (Doom 3, Doom 1, Doom 2, UT2004 and FreeSpace 2)

Maybe FLStudio but I found Reason much better.

So, I miss nothing, I totally love my new environment :3

All I really miss is the audio and video players available for Windows. Media Player Classic Home Cinema and Foobar2000 are way better than anything available for OSX IMO. VLC is merely a passable alternative for video and iTunes is unfortunately the only half-decent audio player for OSX and I absolutely hate the damn software. Since VLC sometimes fails, I use NicePlayer + Perian as my second video player.

Windows 7 also has a far superior filebrowser to OSX's Finder. Thankfully Path Finder does everything Finder doesn't, it's a shame it doesn't integrate to the OS as well as alternative filebrowsers for Windows do.

Lack of DPI scaling in OSX is also a bit annoying on a 30" screen. Hopefully Snow Leopard will have it.

The OSX programs I truly miss on Windows are Preview, Quicklook and Linkinus/Colloquy.
