Hi.

I'm trying to install OSX on my Dell Studio Desktop 540. I am using an external DVD drive to install the operating system onto the computer. I finally finished the installation using the Voodoo kernel, and when I tried to boot up using -v and -f (as a tutorial told me to) I almost suceed, but than I get stopped permanently with "Still waiting for root device" that pops up over and over again.

I do not know what to do.. I read some other threads about this, but it keeps saying stuff about setting hard drives to slave and stuff, which I have no idea how to do. I am not using my internal DVD drive because it is broken.. Please help! I'm so close!!

look, i got the same problem.

No idea what to do now.

If you have SATA HDD, and probably you do(if ur comp. is not sooo old)then i dont think that putting your hdd's in slave mode would change anything. Where did you read that by the way?

I read on another thread that it supposed to work especially if you do it from external dvd-rom....

what r your specs?

motherboard,processor, gfx card...etc...?

i got an AMD phenom with Gigabyte motherboard....

what did you use(i mean which Distro)

and by the way, i've tried to boot from my usb hard drive, but it doesnt boot. What am i doing wrong? Maybe i dont know how to.

I basically just unpacked the iso into the root. But it didnt work.

ok!! hoooooray i finally managed!!!

i'm in iDeneb install and the only two problems i have is,:

1. which of these chipsets

(AppleAtiAta,AppleNfforceAta,ICHxfixed,JMicronAta,SAS,Siliconimage3132,AppleGene

icPCAta) i should use to make it work,if i hAve a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3/US3 Motherboard with AMD770/SB770 Chipset.?

and 2. Which AppleSMBIOS i should choose?

guys please help me!

I'm almost there.

Ok, so i installed it choosing Voodoo Kernel and now i'm gettin a Kernel Panic ,that says ''unable to find driver for this platform....ACPI....'' and more.....Each time i boot.

This problem seems to be quite common, with mostly no solutions(searched for 5 hours yesterday)

anybody knows anythin about this?

what to do?

and @Rylie: I had the same problem too and i solved it by plugging my drives into other slots on the main board. I belive you have Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3/US3. If so then leave it as 'native ide' in Bios and try to plug your internal DVD(if its Sata ofcourse) into some other slot then 4 or 5.

oh no sorry!forget it! You got a different Computer......

...but have you checked out your compatibility in the components section in Wiki? http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
