CorteX1337
Hey guys, This is my first post, I'm completely new to OSX but I instantly fell in love with it the moment I installed it. What bugged me tho, is the fact that this board has many compatibility issues because of the nForce570 MCP chipset. Alot of people think it couldn't be done, and if you google you'll find that OSX loves pretty much everything except for nForce chipsets. Well, this is not the case anymore, because after I made a few adjustments I now have a fully working OSX install, without lockups or slow boot times! My Setup MSI K9N-SLI-2F AMD Athlon X2 4400+ 2x1GB Kingston DDR2-800 nVIDIA Geforce 8600GT 512MB USB mouse and keyboard (Logitech G5, G15) BIOS: No modifications made, load Optimized defaults. Stuff you need to do: First, download the driver pack I uploaded http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=ef6cbd8...04e75f6e8ebb871 and put this on a CD/DVD/USB flash drive/Windows partition or whatever, just make sure OSX can access it because the ethernet drivers included with iDeneb do not work properly on this mainboard. Get iDeneb 10.5.6 and burn it to a DVD, boot it and let it load (I have no clue why the installation disk takes forever to launch the GUI but it doesn't matter). After you selected the partition to install to, click Customize and select these options: Alternative Essential Patch ACPI Kext 10.5.6 Kernel 9.5.0 Voodoo Audio --> ALC Series ALC883 Chipset AppleNForceATA Video When using nVidia drivers, use NVInject and not NVDarwin. ATI not tested, but they should work. Fix Seatbelt Fix OpenHaltRestart by Pystar AppleSMBIOS-27-800 Idlehalt Fix Install any additional drivers if you know what you're doing. NOTE: Do NOT, I repeat do NOT install any ethernet drivers yet. nForceEthernet seems unable to detect any of your onboard NIC's, and Forcedeth will make your kernel panic when visiting certain websites in safari. Resume installation like normal and wait for it to finish. Restart your PC and boot OSX without any flags, it might take a few tries before you actually get in the OS. This is due to AppleNForceATA not working 100% correctly, but we fix that later. After you created your account, locate the zip file containing the drivers you downloaded earlier and open it, it should extract the files to a folder called K9N_Pack_OSX, open the folder and double click the OSX86Tools_1.0.150 folder and run OSX86Tools. Select "Install Kexts" and locate the Kexts folder inside your extracted K9N_Pack_OSX folder and install both Kexts (AppleNForceATA.kext and IOATAFamily.kext). It will ask you if you want to reboot, select No but keep the OSX86Tools window open. Now double click nForceLAN in the root of K9N_Pack_OSX and follow the installation wizard. After installation, go back to OSX86Tools and check these options: Repair Permissions Clear Extensions Cache Set Extensions permissions. Clear User Application Cache Clear System Application Cache Then click "Run Selected Tasks" and wait for it to finish. You might want to Enable Quartz GL as well for optimal graphical performance. Now reboot your PC, and experience the coolness of OSX running stable on the MSI K9N board Credits Everyone that contributed in making drivers and fixes, the OSX86 community, the iDeneb team, MSI and last but not least nawcom for pointing me in the right direction more than once Now my desktop is fully OSX'd. ZePPeliN_
3 questions: * Do you use the same versions of the manuall kext install, AppleNForceATA.kext and IOATAFamily.kext, as the ones on the install cd? * Does the nForceLAN installation wizard install any special version of ethernet kext? * Do you have sleep working? I only have problem with sleep and ethernet too work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/173105-msi-k9n-complete-guide/#findComment-1389683 Share on other sites
