kingtriumph
Hello all, I'm what you would call a n00b to your forums... I got OS X Marklar-Tiger to install onto a partition of my harddrive and Windows XP Pro on the other partition. Here's how I did it: I low-level formatted the drive I wanted to install OS X to, I then put my DVD into my DVD-ROM drive and booted the OS X DVD. It cycled up and came to the install screen. At this point both my keyboard and mouse were working fine, and I selected 'Disk Utilities" from the top menu bar and created two 100 GB partitions, formatted one for Mac OS X Journaled and left the other designated "Free Space". I then went back to the installer and went through the process of installing Mac OS X, which it did without a hitch. Afterwards, however, when I went to boot into Mac OS X, I would get the initial registration page but my mouse and keyboard no longer worked. I ended up resovling this by using a spare USB Keyboard (which my normal one isn't) and entering the command "dr=disk0s1" at the boot: prompt. (I got the code from the "Failures" forum on this site, not sure who posted it, but thank you!!) This magic command made my USB keyboard and mouse work when booting OS X. Afterwards, I reset and put my Windows XP Pro disk in and installed XP fresh onto the other partition. In doing this, I set the XP partition as active and the OS X side as inactive, but you can change that with a bootloader, I just ending up using darwin. OS X is a bit shaky... all the programs run, but I haven't tested sound. Haven't tried installing anything either, but my internet works, so it recognizes my ethernet card. That's it, basically. Here are my computer's specs: Intel P4 2.6 GHz 800 MHz FSB Soyo Dragon 2 i875 motherboard 1 Gb RAM Western Digital 80 Gb HD 7200 RPM Western Digital 200 Gb HD 7200 RPM Emprex DVD-/+RW Dual Layer 16x Compaq DVD-ROM DVD-115 SMZ EZ Card 10/100 PNY GeForce FX 5900 128 Mb Memory SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX Microsoft USB Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 Good luck, everyone!
