I have a Dell Studio 540. My specs are:

Memory (RAM): 8191 MB

CPU Info: Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz

CPU Speed: 2335.5 MHz

Sound card: Speakers (High Definition Audio)

Display Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

Network Adapters: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E GBE NIC

CD / DVD Drives: D: PLDS DVD+-RW DH-16A6S

USB Controllers: 10 host controllers.

Motherboard: Dell Inc. 0M017G

For installation, I am using iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final since I found a guide within Wiki that is supposed to be my same exact specs(http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.6/Desktops#Dell_Studio_540). This guide suggests the installation of the following drivers:

iPC 10.5.6 Universal Final

Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo

Chipset: LegacyAppleIntelPIIATA

Audio: Azalia Audio Package

CPUS=1 boot flag fix

LAN: Realtek R1000 Driver

I even have the Nvidia 9500GT Video card as indicated within the above link. For this, I have installed NVinject 0.2.1 1024MB VRAM and NVdarwin 1024MB with the same results which are noted below.

Everything installs just fine and when it restarts, I boot off of the installed hard drive using the following command: -v -f. This wasn't working and it was getting hung up rather quickly so I did some research and determined that I needed to add the following "Fixes and Patches":

ACPI Fix

Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 - I read that this must be applied anytime you install Kernel: 9.5.0 voodoo.

Now my system just hangs on "Still waiting for root device." I know I am close, can someone assist me in the right direction?

Pick a different chipset. Try the Intel ICHx SATA one. That worked with my dell even though I didn't have sata ports.

Thanks for the reply. Installing Intel ICHx SATA resulting in the same problem, "still waiting for root device." However, when I installed the Intel ICH10 SATA Support driver everything loaded flawlessly from what I could tell. The system rebooted and I allowed it to start the installation process. The white screen came up with the Mac Apple in the middle came up, started loading and then went black and I believe I remember the curser blinking in the top left corner. I did a bit of research and people having the same problem blammed it on the video card and suggested that I install a different driver. So, I went ahead and installed NVdarwi 1024MB instead of the NVinject 0.2.1 1024 VRAM like I initially did. Well, this created a new problem, when loading the kexts after istallation is hangs (I believe it is also known as a kernal panic) and just freezes. I tried reinstalling and NO video drivers, same thing, it just hangs. Any suggestions, I am going to try plugging into the VGA port since I am running DVI right now. This does make sense.
