Note: This guide is a work in progress so keep checking for more details.

Things you'll need:

  • Retail Leopard DVD image (any build will do)
  • USB Key (at least 8 Gb)
  • Working OS X computer
  • 1 hour w/ some hackintosh knowledge, ALOT of time w/o :D
  • Files

STEP 1 - preparing your USB pen

Start by formating your USB key in Disk Utility as "Mac OS Extended Journaled" and with GUID partition table (under options button)

Now in disk utility Restore your Leo image to the USB key

When it's done, install chameleon 2.0 RC1 to the USB key

I had some trouble installing it on mine so I took a old 1Gb key and it worked perfectly

STEP 2 - Using the necessary/wanted kexts

This is one of a strange Notebook: I suspect the Power4Gear technology from ASUS. It has almost 4 hours of battery on Vista, which is great since the specs.

I lost a lot of time searching for this, and my OSX86 kept boot into Kernel Panics and stalls but now it runs all vanilla baby ;)

THE HOLY GRAIL IS JaS 10.5.8 ACPI and APIC kexts, without it just doesn't work.

In the /Extras folder of your USB key (created by chameleon bootloader) add the following kexts:

JaS 10.4.8 APCI and APIC kexts

Disabler

AppleDecrypt

(all the files in the tgz..)

Add also the dsdt.aml file in the / (root) and /Extras of the USB key

Now install VoodooPS2Controller to the USB key with the trackpad option.

Without it you'll need a USB mouse during the install

Now we are ready to install Retail Leopard :D

STEP 3 - Installing

Boot with your USB key (in my case I had both chameleon and leopard inserted)

In the chameleon option screen chose your Retail Leopard Drive and add the cpus=1 and -v boot flags

(Just type:)

cpus=1 -v

and press enter

Enjoy the screen ;)

Once in the Leopard Install screen go ahead with the options you want and when it finishes let it reboot.

If you get a error on the end saying that OS X didn't installed correctly just ignore it, sometimes I get that too.. Seems to be random...

STEP 4 - Keeping it Vanilla

Upon reboot you still need the chameleon from the USB key (and the boot flags) to boot into your newly installed OSx86, but not for long :P

Install chameleon again but this time to your Chameleon hard drive.

Now copy the kexts you added to the /Extras in the USB key to the /Extras in your Leo partition but not the APCI and APIC kexts. (Disabler - decrypt - dsdt.aml (don't forget to add it to root also))

For QE/CI install NvEnabler from Krazubu and add 0x064c10de in the dev id's of NVDANV50HAL and NVDAResman .kexts (See NvEnabler manual install for more detailed instructions). Don't forget to add the NvEnabler to the /Extra/Extensions instead of the /S/L/E..

For ALC663 install VoodooHDA and voila! I can't ge this one working in the /Extras folder.. Tell me if you can

Also, don't forget to install (again, in /E/E dir) VoodooPS2Controller with trackpad and whatever you want now, cuz you just have a Vanilla Leopard ;)

RECOMMENDATIONS AND NOTES

I've been using the OpenHaltRestart 1.0.3 from Psystar and VoodooUSBEHCI kexts.

The first one gives me shutdown and the second sleep..

Prior to them the notebook didn't shutdown by itself and didn't enter sleep..

The next step is to get the Fn keys for volume and display brightness..

The sleep Fn+F1 combo works so I think once properly configured the others will too, but for now I haven't find out how..

  • 2 weeks later...
