T4FF
Hi All Just putting a post on to say hi and to say that I am about to attempt my first OSX86 install. I have recently purchased a PC, the parts have been picked based on information on the HCL lists. The spec is: MB: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L CPU: Intel E5200 2.5GHz (OC'd to 3GHz atm) Mem: Corsair TwinX 4GB DDR2 8500 GFX: Asus EN9400GT 1024MB HDD: WG1600AAJS 160GB DVD: LG GH22NS40 Case: Cooler Master 340 uATX CASE+460w PSU Additionally, I have an Edgestore DAS401 which I will be using for storage. I have purchased 2 1TB WD10EADS to put in there. The DAS401 uses an SIL 3432 PCI Express card to connect to the PC using eSATA. I have a retail Leopard disc that has been "obtained" and also a copy of iDeneb 10.5.6 (not sure which will be easier / better route). I am now doing some "research", so I understand what I'm doing 1) before I ask any questions and 2) before I do anything!! The PC is currently running TinyXP but one side issue I have is that I am going to have to run OSX on a VM image (already got one of these) temporarily to burn the retail disc as it's a DMG (and my macmini only has a DVD Rom)! I'm assuming this is the easiest option to do this considering I already have an OSX image? If anyone has anything to mention right now - such as problematic hardware or similar - feel free to let me know Cheers Taff Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171086-my-first-install/ Share on other sites

T4FF
Pleased to announce I have completed the install and all works really well. USB is working fine, it reboots fine, ethernet works, not tested sleep etc yet. My only complaint so far is that if I scroll in a window or move a window across the screen, the image blurs across the screen (so cannot describe this properly), but it's late and I'm not sorting this now so will be having a look tomorrow but I suspect my GFX has not been compiled properly. Must sleep... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/171086-my-first-install/#findComment-1181220 Share on other sites
T4FF
Ok I've been using this install guide: http://an43.com/osx/install2.htm At step 26/27, using OSX86Tools I've set up my Asus EN9400GT 1GB as a "custom" card. The card was playing up initially, moving a window round the screen or scrolling a window didn't refresh so ended up with a blur across the screen. I did a fresh install (getting used to this ) set up everything again but at the point of installing the kexts, I also installed the nvinject.kext as per the 9400 GT sticky in the Nvidia section. This has worked and my machine is now working great! Only final issue, is the about this mac says my GFX is a 512MB card. How so? What have I done wrong? One other question, am I able to install kexts at any time using OSX86Tools? I'm assuming I didn't really need to reinstall everything, just install the kext? Thanks in advance....
