armoguy94
Hey guys, my friend wants a Mac and I'm fed up with Apple so I definitely won't recommend him an Apple computer. I'm willing to build him (and myself) one. Can you guys recommend me compatible hardware? The insanelymac forums are a bit hard to get all this information from, from a total noob like me who's new to building hackintosh's (mainly because all the hardware sections are split up).. I want to deal with compatibility issues as little as possible. Basically, I want something like this: - Any Intel 2.4GHz - 3.06GHz (around there) Quad core processor that is compatible with Leopard - A decent graphics card with both DVI and HDMI outputs (light gaming/1080p home media) - A good sound card - Two 1TB 7200 rpm hard drives - A compatible motherboard - 8gb memory (what speed should I get and should I get DDR2 or DDR3?) - Firewire 800, Firewire 400, around 5 USB ports, audio in & out, ethernet(optional), all that stuff.. - A DVD drive (dl dvd read/write support) - Perhaps a second DVD drive, or maybe just one Blueray drive for the entire comp.. but entirely optional. - A WiFi card Does this sound realistic? It would be a perfect computer for its purpose.. and I'm sure cheaper than any decent Apple computer. Could you guys recommend me hardware? TomCom
CPU/Mobo/RAM: You should ask him first: Core 2 Quad or Core i7 (Nehamem)? (better but + 150/200$) Graphic card: HD 4850, especially a Sapphire Vapor-X model. FireWire 800 is useless when you can get eSata (60MB vs. up to 300MB). DVD drive: all Sata ones work. HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black or Seagate 7200.12. For Wifi and sound cards, I don't know but you'll find that on the Wiki: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170210-building-a-hackintosh/#findComment-1175147 Share on other sites

I'll get a Core 2 Quad, as long as it's completely compatible with OS X. I want to make sure it's also somewhat compatible with Snow Leopard, but I'm guessing we probably don't know anything about SL compatibility yet.. Try something like this: GigaByte GA-EP45T-UD3P Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9650 Western Digital WD1001FALS 1 TB x2 OCZ DIMM 6 GB DDR3-1600 Tri-Kit OCZ DIMM 2 GB DDR3-1600 Asus EN9600GT MATRIX/HTDI Samsung SH-S223B x2 Asus WL-138G v2 Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! FireWire Card 1394 3-Port Antec P182 Corsair CMPSU-650TX Is around 1330 euros (1871 USD) That's a great system but we're looking for around $800 range, lol. I'm sure we can still get a great machine with our budget, just not an intense gaming one (in which case we wouldn't be looking for OS X) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170210-building-a-hackintosh/#findComment-1175450 Share on other sites
TomCom
EP45T-UD3P doesn't work well with 8GB of DDR3, according to several commentaries from newegg. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/170210-building-a-hackintosh/#findComment-1175456 Share on other sites
