So I finally decided to hunker down and geek and install OS X on my Toshiba Satellite A205-S4607

First off, let me say that if you get irritated easily or have a tendency to throw things, don't attempt this.

I had known from a previous attempt at trying to install that that I had a few hurdles to get through;

1. 10.5.1 Kalyway did not boot using the MBR straight from install

2. No audio

3. No network

Previously, those three items had made for a completely useless system. So I spent a few days doing research to find if there were some drivers for my hardware. After creating a hefty install list with bookmarked links to install instructions, I began my quest.

Item 1 was fairly easy in that I installed the Chameleon 2.0 RC1 bootloader. A few commands in Terminal and it boots like a charm.

Item 2 was a bit more difficult. Finally found an installer that would run a set of terminal commands for me and copy the kext directory where it needed to be.

Item 3 was enough to put me in a room with rubber walls while I quietly conversed with the Mad Hatter and Rich Nixon on the benefits of non monotheistic religions. Mainly because the Marvell Yukon 8039 is not the most supported Wired Ethernet device, but i'm relentless if nothing else.

After changing MANY (And I mean MANY) permissions, loading different kext files in to the IONetworkingFamily.kext package and then manually loading the driver I finally got it to work.

When I saw the DHCP pick up an IP, I about {censored} my pants.

In short, this is awesome!

Below is a screen shot of the system profile

The wireless on this system originally was an Intel 4965AGN which most of us know is 100% incompatible right now. The IWIDarwin driver is supposed to work, but was useless.

I ordered a Broadcom 300M off of ebay for 22 bux with shipping. I got this one because it automatically works OOB and reports as an Airport card.

I installed the card, rebooted and I had the prompt to logon to available networks.

So I now have a working 10.5.1 Install which runs pretty damn good on this system, I have full sound, networking (Both wired and wireless), and it boots like a dream :(
