Hey all,

Recently I bought myself 2 SSD's from Vertex to put in raid 0. Windows 7 flies on this setup! Now I want to replace Windows 7 by OS X. I understand that my ICH10R RAID functionallity isn't going to work. It shows me 2 seperate disks while I configured a RAID 0 array in the bios. I can create a software raid installation in diskutil, install on it, but booting from it doesn't work.

What are my alternatives? I could install on 1 disk, but given that these are expensive SSD's I don't like one sitting around doing nothing but catching dust. Any ideas?

Perhaps support for this will never reach Macintosh. Support for it was difficult enough to find for Linux and BSD and exists for Windows only because Intel itself created the necessary drivers (Though these drivers are not present on Windows installation disks).

The solution is to get a hardware RAID controller than can work independantly of the operating system or to use Macintosh's own software RAID function. Without a doubt, I highly recommend hardware RAID. It is much less hassle, it is faster, and it will work regardless of what operating system you decide to run on your system (Which should be the case for all hardware).

The Chameleon v2 Bootloader will boot off apple softraids. the ich10r wont work, but its fakeraid (uses cpu for raid operations rather than specialized hardware and processor) just like the apple raid stuff. get chameleon v2, install on a raid taht u set up in disk util, and boot. should work just fine
