Hello everyone,

This is my first post on these forums and I've received plenty of useful information from these forums and I just wanted to give back to the community.

First for some specs on the laptop:

Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz)

15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050)

4GB DDR2-800

Geforce 9800M GS

320GB HD

Intel 5100 wifi link wireless :(

Built in HD Audio

To boot the DVD without a kernel panic you need to boot with the cpus=1 -v options.

The customization options I selected to get OS X running are:

iATKOS V5.1 Main System

PCI EFI V9 Boot Loader

Apple Decrypt Decrypter

SMBIOS-EFI Air

9.5.0 Kernel Voodoo

x86 ACPI

Disabler.kext

Graphics Update (under VGA)

nvkush (under VGA/nVidia)

Intel AHCI SATA (under System/SATA-IDE)

Intel Speedstep A

Laptop Battery

After selecting those options I let iATKOS install. After the installation, I used the 9f23Installer.pkg from http://scottdangel.com/blog/?p=56 to get OpenGL Acceleration working properly. I'm 99% sure I did not have to do anything else to get Quartz acceleration. If doing just this doesn't get Quartz accelerated, please try using the Universal OS X Installer to install an EFI string for an 8800GT graphics card (I remember doing that at one point, but I can't remember exactly if that is required or not). To get the sound working, I downloaded VoodooHDA.kext from http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/downloads/list and used OSXTools from http://######.com/osx86tools/ to install it.

At this point in the installation everything works except the Intel 5100 wifi link wireless adapter and I can't seem to get hibernation to work yet either. After struggling to get OS X working on here I figured I would let hibernation go for now.

For wireless, I went out and purchased a $25-$30 wireless network card from Walmart. I picked the Netgear WG111v2. To get this adapter to work, I downloaded the Realtek drivers for their RTL8187 wireless drivers for OS X 10.5. Works great on my home network, and works great with my Cisco VPN client for my VPN at work.

I was also able to update to 10.5.7 through Apple Update but I needed to back up my system.kext and seatbelt.kext and then restore them using OSXTools. Without this, every dmg file causes a kernel panic.

I hope that's enough information to get OS X iATKOS v5i working on an Asus G50VT-x6.

Brian

Excellent. I have a asus n81vg-x1 that I've been wrestling with. Hopefully your information can help me out.

Just something to think about. On all of the notebooks, they have a very small wireless card like this:

Back on my sony vaio project, i ended up swapping the intel card out

Just go to ebay and type "dw 1390 mini express" and you'll see plenty of them for less than $15 shipped. These are the exact same chipset as the official apple aircard, and they require absolutely no hassle when running osx. These cards are generally very easy to get to, and it usually only requires a #0 or #1 phillips head.

Wow thanks. I'll have to look in to that. The Netgear card sure gets hot when in use. It'd be nice to get a replacement. It'd be nice if someone can figure out how to get working drivers for the 5100 though.

Both machines look pretty close to the same other than the graphics adapter. I hope these customizations help you get it installed. The trickiest part for me was getting the correct graphics driver working with accelerated quartz.

Thank you Brian!

1. Which Bios version is your system on? Some people reported on the G50vt-X1 that iAtkos will not work without an updated Bios.

2. What is and isn't working on your system? Could you plase make a list of what you have tried? E.i. cd/dvd burning, etc...I know that video, WiFi, and sound are the critical ones since I have tried to install iDeneb and iPC with not total luck in my G50vt-X2 (exactly same systems as yours but little bit slower CPU).

3. Are you dual booting? If so, with which OS? How you did it, and did you run into problems? How you fix them? When I tried, I did the install on an external USB since I did not want to srew my system up as I did in the past when trying dual booting.

4. Before you did the step to get OpenGL with the 9f23 installer:

did you get your system to recognize your nVidea 9800m GS card with its 512mb memory?

did you get the 1680x1050 resolution working?

There is a post around on the G50vt-X1 where the guys ended up doing a lot of trics to get OS to at least recognize the card and sometimes it resolution.

5. Is your system recognizing one or two CPU cores after all you have done?

Cheers!

;)

Hi there,

Just to get a little back to the community;

Successfully (almost) installed it on G50vt-X2 ( G50vt X2 )! (I am just typing it this way as well so if any lost soul

is searching for help around the net, he/she can find this info!

I followed Brian128 instructions, with the following changes:

1. Under customization, also selected "Realtek R1000" under Network options.

2. Did not used the 9f23Installer.pkg to get OpenGL working properly. All I did was installed OSXTools and used it to get the OpenGL working!

3. Downloaded and installed VoodooHDA.kext with OSXTools. This one did not work at first. After, when I was sniffing around what else I could do with OSXTools, I decided to test its option of checking PCI devices. It asked if I wanted something else installed (some PCI thing...I am at work now, so do not have the exact words or descriptions). I said yes, then reboot...and after it, for some unknown reason, the audio was working !!! I do not know how, but it works now.

4. Followed iAtkos instructions for dual booting, so I installed Grub into the "/" "root" Linux partition instead of the MBR.

5. Now, when I turn on the laptop, I got Darwing/Chameleon as the option to choose which OS to boot...but, unfortunately by default it goes into OS X. I did not want this, therefore I tried to change the com.apple.Boot.plist file (google it, you will find where is located and what possible changes to do to it to make it change the default OS to boot from) to make the system to boot into Vista by default. I tried all the possibilities I found on the net, but not luck at all! At the end, I screwed up the installation, and I was frustrated ! I could not repair the file by booting into the terminal, nor I could not do it using Linux, so I decided to start again ! So to clear somebody's path...here I go:

1. Follow Brian128 customization, adding Realtek R1000

2. Install OSXTools first. Then install the VoodooHDA.kext file with OSXTools, reboot.

2a. If you still do not have sound, then use OSXTools and do the "check PCI components" or something like that option, it will ask you to install something, say yes, reboot.

3. Using OSXTools enable OpenGL, reboot.

4. Check with system info if your OpenGL is working. Right now I do not know how else I can do to check if I really have the OpenGL working fully other than checking and reading what the system info is telling me.

5. Triple boot:

I let Vista to live in the first partition, then install OS X on the second one, then third is for data, and the fourth one for Linux Mint. If you have Vista already, leave it; if not, install it first; then OS X, and Linux last. If you want a triple boot with Vista and Linux, and want to be able to change the default booting OS, my recommendation is to let Linux install Grub on front, and then change the Grub configuration file to choose which OS to boot by default. Google it, I promise you, it is easy to change this file, and it works ! If you want by default to boot into OS X, then follow iAtkos instructions and install Grub into the "root" Linux partition when doing the Linux installation. You will be able to choose which OS to boot from Chameleon.

6. This is not a "to-do" but just to let know that the System recognizes the two CPU cores.

Be very patient, installing and having it working will not happen overnight. Maybe you might need to try again and again. So far, this forum post is the closest solution to have it working on the X2.

What is not working:

1. Wireless. Some people is working on the driver ported from Linux, but meanwhile, a great solution is provided by abense.

2. System configuration says that Video card only have 256MB of memory. I do not know why, but I do not care too much about this at the moment.

3. Sleep (Hibernation) does not work.

Peace off! ;)
