Cody-7
Hi all, I'm attempting to install 10.5.2 Kalyway on my PC. But, I'm having issues with lockups / shut offs. The first time I went to install, I booted with the -v command, and everything went fine. I got to the welcome screen, chose my language, and went to disk manager to make a partition on the 10GB of unallocated space I made on my drive. Well, it started analyzing the drives for a bit then just froze. I could still move my mouse, but it was no longer spinning the "busy" wheel. So i tried again... several times. Now it will either shut-off or lock up right after analyzing my disk drive in the command screen (before the install), or I'll get to the install and before I choose my language BAM a shut off. It seems after my first attempt I can rarely even get to the installer anymore. I am using a WD 160GB IDE drive as primary master (jumper set accordingly) and my DVD drive as secondary master, with jumper set accordingly. I don't see a lot of settings in my BIOS that should affect this, but I set suspend mode to S3 and disabled my SATA controllers just to be safe. Has anyone experienced this symptom before? My hardware is as follows: Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 AM2 motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ CPU (Supports SSE, and SSE2, not sure about SSE3 so I'll have to look again). nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 1GB G.Skill PC6400 RAM SB Audigy 2 ZS; motherboard also includes AC97 audio WD 160GB IDE with 1 NTFS partition, and 10GB unallocated - Thanks for any help! Eye1
I have AMD also - only way to work it is: IDE DVD master and IDE HD secondary on SAME DATA CABLE. Put dvd at one end, HD in middle, MB at other end. Cody-7
Ok I'll try that. I think it may be a hardware problem on my end but I'm not sure though. I can boot to XP / Vista without problems...
