I have read several threads that make it sound like an MCE receiver work (not the remote just the receiver). I have a couple generic eHome MCE receivers, but I can't get them to work. I can't find any mention of a IR driver, is it built in? Any kext that would help? RemoteBuddy doesn't work either. I have an apple remote, but when I plug in the ir receiver to usb it either does nothing, or the red sensor light turns on and stays on. either way it never gets aything from a remote (apple remote w ehome usb ir receiver).

Ideas?

Reading more, I saw some mention of getting vendorid and productid and editing a kext. I have tried this with my ehome receiver without success.

In system profiler:

"ehome Infrared Transeiver"

productID: 0x0008

vendorID: 0x1784

I converted the hext to integers. I have modified hte apple ir driver kext's info.plist to be:

<key>idProduct</key>

<integer>8</integer>

<key>idVendor</key>

<integer>6020</integer>

I deleted extensions.mkext and rebooted. Nothing changed... the receiver still will not do anything with the apple remote input. when plugged in there is a 50% chance of the receive red light to come on and stay on. If it doesn't come on when plugging it in it does come on first input from apple remote and stay on. Normal use of it in windows the red light would only come on during a button press of a remote then go off.

Using plex and remote buddy, neither app gets any iput from the apple remote via the receiver.

Any other ideas?

Not all ehome receivers work, I have three of them only two work in OSX...

Go here for a list of supported hardware:

My HTPC is osx with an ehome receiver and Remote buddy which is an amazing piece of software, I have tried all three MCE from microsoft which work well, but with the remote buddy software and frontrow the OSX version blows them away.
