Gigabyte EP45-DS3 Guide

Hi,

 

Lets jump right into it!

 

So! My config looks like this:

 

Gigabyte EP45-DS3 Motherboard

Intel Core2 Duo E6750 overclocked to 3,1Ghz

Zotac Geforce 9800GTX+ 512Mb

4Gb DDR2-800Mhz CSX Ram

3 SATA HDDs (160Gb, 250Gb, 500Gb)

LG DVD-RW (SATA)

 

I used iPC 10.5.6 to install OSX. But I could install iAtkos and iDeneb too. iDeneb worked fine, but had some issues with the usb.

 

I used the following kexts, patches during the installation with iPC (by clicking customsize before install):

 

- Chipset: ICH 10

- Audio: ALC 889a

- Video: nDarwin 512Mb

- Ethernet: RealtekR1000

- IOUSBMassStorageFix

- AppleSMBios-800

- PS/2 Keyboardfix

- Shutdown/Restart fix

- FirewireMountFix

 

From applications/software I installed OSX86tools. It is very handy for kext installation and a lot more.

 

After installation everything worked out of the box except the Audio.

With the help of OSX86tools, it is very easy to install those additional kexts!

 

So basically this Mobo is very compatible! I used Xbench to test and it recognizes my Hackintosh as a Macpro.

Now I am thinking about upgrading the CPU to Q6600. :-)

 

One additional tip:

that a Netgear G311 Ethernet card works great with the DS3L Mobo which is very similar to mine, so maybe I will try that in the near future too. But let me restate, that there is nothing wrong with the onboard Ethernet. It works just fine!

Quick Note: Today I've installed the 10.5.7 update. It worked fine except it thrown the audio out of the window.

To fix this issue I had to reinstall the audio kexts using this guide:

If You've already installed the audio, then please do not forget to delete the three kexts (AppleSMBios, AppleHDA and HDAEnabler) before you reinstall them with osx86tools!

 

Quick Update:

I've successfully replaced the E6750 CPU with a Q9300 without the need of a reinstall. Everything works perfectly! The only thing I've changed in OSX was the CPU info in the "About this MAC" because originally the CPU was unknown to OSX. It worked perfectly though from the beginning.

 

Quick Tip:

If You would like to monitor the CPU Core Temps then I highly recommend Temperature Monitor. It worked out of the box. Just google it. It is free.
