Hey, long time fan of OSX here. I would love to get OSX up and going on my desktop but I have no idea if my hardware is compatible (checked the lists on the wiki, there isn't anything about my mobo on there). I am planning on putting part of my tax return (if the check ever arrives, filed late) on a Macbook, but would like to try to get it going on my desktop first.

If anyone has ANY experience with any of this hardware, I would love to hear about it.

Epox 9npa Ultra (socket 939, nF4 chipset)

AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.7Ghz (same as a 3800x2)

eVGA 9800GTX

SATA hard drive

Now, even if there isn't anyone out there with this setup that has tried OSx86. How about comparable hardware (nF4 based mobos etc)? I use onboard sound and ethernet so both of them have to work. I live in a small town, so buying hardware (other than online) is out of the question. Also, this setup is getting kind of old so I would not like to invest more money into it just to get OSX working.

Thanks!

Also, I forgot to ask..

To be sure of hardware compatibility, would it be possible to install OSX in a virtual machine without having to nuke my windows partition to be sure I will be able to get everything working?

Thanks again

Also, I couldn't help browsing newegg....

GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L

Intel Pentium E5200

OCZ 4GB (2GBx2) DDR2 800

500GB SATA HD

throw in my PSU, 9800GTX, DVD burner, etc etc etc.. Could be a decent OSX machine? Would be a reason to drop down from 3 desktops, to one for just about $200.

I need my OSX fix here guys, should have never sold that G4 tower :P

Thanks :D
