I need to know if it's compatible, what software to use, if I need any patches...

or better yet give me an instructions manual.

THANKS!

Yes, it does work, but what fun would it be if it's all spelt out? :(

Luckily I just installed OSX 10.5.6 on a Sony VGN-CR490 laptop :]

Everything works out-of-the-box w/ the proper settings except the video, webcam (maccam doesn't work for it), and wireless card (AFAIK there's no kext for 3945bg/abgn etc)

1) iPC 10.5.6 Universal v5, w/ the following options:

- kernel 9.5.0

- Laptop display (but not X3100)

- Intel ICHX SATA

- ALC 262

- Intel ProSet/Wireless 4965 (even though it doesn't work actually)

- Patched USB drivers

- Apple ACPIBatteryManager

- Apple ACPIPowerSource

- Power Management Package

- IOPCIFamily kext Patched

- PS/2 Mouse fix

- Patch DSDT with NewHPET

- Apple SMBIOS - 27 Rev3 800 MHz

- Chameleon with SMBIOS/DSDT

2) When you boot you'll probably have a white or black screen (this is due to the x3100 graphics)

First, try booting into safe mode "-x"

Second, try booting w/ "-f -s" and remove the AppleIntelGMA drivers w/ the following:

fsck -y

mount -uw /

mkdir /drivers

mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA* /drivers

reboot

Now boot into safe mode. If that doesn't work, try -v -x

3) Download / Install SaCleoCheater's x3100 fix following this thread:

http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/intel-gma-x...x-10-5-6-t2527/

4) [Edit:09/25/09] If you don't have the battery monitor in the upper right, install both the VoodooPower.kext, and VoodooBattery.kext; http://www.superhai.com/darwin.html If you want to update to 10.5.8, you can skip this step (otherwise you'll get two battery indicators after updating).

5) Wifi is Intel's 3945/4965 a/b/g/n which currently has limited functionality w/ iwidarwin's kext; http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ As detailed on iwidarwin's site, it will be recognized as an ethernet port (instead of wireless), and you must use the 'networkSelector' that comes w/ the installer. Currently can only associate w/ unsecure wifi routers.

Hope that helps!

OS X 10.5.8 is possible w/ this system from iPC 10.5.6. Read: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/update-...osh-osx86-1058/ But afterwards I got two battery monitors. If you installed VoodooBattery, and updated to 10.5.8, just remove VoodooBattery, and the second battery monitor will go away.
