mwnorman
I've been trying to get OSX86 to run on my Dell Vostro 1710 laptop, without much success. I resized my WinXP partition using GParted and carved off ~ 20G for OSX86 in a new (primary) partition. I tried recent versions of iPC and iATKOS - they boot fine and the installation appears to succeed; however, upon rebooting, the Dell MBR (apparently not a standard MBR) is somehow corrupted and booting doesn't work. I can boot from the GParted Live CD and reset the boot flag on my WinXP partition, but any attempt to make the new partition bootable or to use 'chain0' to boot over to the new partition fails (all that appears is 'boot1') I restored my hard drive (thank #$%#$% for Dan Goodell's http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/index.htm instructions - talk about nervous, direct editing of partition table!) So, is there any way to install OSX86 without it touching the existing MBR? Thanks in advance, Mike Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/164286-boot-failure-after-install-on-vostro-1710-ipc-iatkos/ Share on other sites
mwnorman
I've been trying to get OSX86 to run on my Dell Vostro 1710 laptop, without much success... Well, it turns out that my boot problems had nothing to do with the MBR. I made a mistake in the Disk Utilities creating the HFS+ partition - I used the one 'with case-sensitivity' - which turned out to be a problem.
