timoki
so today I decided to upgrade my S101 from 1GB to 2GB RAM (Kingston 2GB PC2 - 6400 CL6 200 - SODIMM) Everything seems to be working fine.. the 2GB is recognized fine, but I've experience following problems: 1) Batter Meter seems to be not working correctly anymore (doesn't even recognize if its on/off power supply) 2) Sleep doesn't work anymore.. if I close the lid the screen just turns black all lights on (not blinking sleep mode light) and if I open it again I can't do anything, screen remains black and can only hard-resest 3) sometimes when booting it doesn't recognize touch pad 4) when shutting down it will show a sort of test screen with changing colours Anyone has experienced that problem too and maybe even has a solution for this? All seems to be fine again if I put in original 1GB RAM. Can the RAM really affect that much? shukster
Hi timoki, I have run into similar problems with my eeePc 900HA. Installed iDeneb v1.5 10.5.7 all seemed to work apart from wifi and choppy sound output. Thought I could help the system along by installing more ram so went and bought 2GB Ram Kingston pc2-6400(800hz). Once installed, I had no battery meter, no sound, no trackpad, no keyboard. The keyboard and trackpad I could bypass by using usb ones, but kinda defeats the purpose of having such a small lappy. Anyway as much as I was sceptical I didn't think that OSX/motherboard combo could be sooooo picky, so went and got a 2G stick matched for specs from the original 1GB stick, pc2 5300 (667hz), non EEC, no buffered Kingston. Guess what still the same symptoms. So I'm buggered if I know why osx doesn't wanna play ball with the 2GB ram. My last thought is to actually either go to ASUS for a genuine 2GB stick from them which I am sure will be overpriced, or go direct to the manufacturer of the 1 GB stick (apacer) for the 2GB version, probably will be told they wont sell to public..... Anyway I also have a mate who has the same problem on a Toshiba satelite A100. No probs with the original ram, but the 2 GB upgrade he has does the no keyboard/trackpad. Maybe a guru in here will actually know what the problem/solution is. In the meantime I will go hunting for an apacer 2gb stick to see if that plays ball. tug3
I know this is an old thread, but as an owner of a S101 and knowing how hard it's to find anything related to it specifically I decided to reply... I noticed that shukster used a 800MHz memory instead of the original 667MHz memory. Usually this is no biggie with PCs, but at least with Apple's products it sometimes is! I upgraded the memory on my old iMac (original aluminium intel) from 2*1GB to 2*2GB. The iMac uses 667MHz DDR2 SO-DIMMs. I happened to have 2 * 800MHz DIMMs, so I popped them in. It wouldn't boot! I played around and noticed that Apple does test for the memory and tries to use it to the max. But the other hardware just cannot handle 800MHz and it freezes. With one 667MHz & one 800MHz, it works as it uses the speed of the slower DIMM. So, MAYBE Apple has added something to OS X also to recognise the memory speed... I know it sounds impossible. ...just a thought. ps. I haven't been able to install OS X to my S101 yet, but any day now...
