0_o
Just rambling on what I've experienced so far today in trying to get leopard on the x60s. My install is not complete (no sound or network), but I've tacked a few issues that didnt seem to have a definitive answer online... So, I attempted this a while back on the x60s but kept getting the following: " ebios read error device timeout " .. ( I've narrowed this down to in my case, being a problem with burning these OSX iso's in Roxio DE 10. If I burn the same ISO in Alcohol, it works like a champ....) Next issue I ran into was after installing non-kalyway 10.5.0 and copying the chain0 file over, I would get " chain0 boot error " or something close to that each time I tried booting. Trust -It was a primary partition - No extended partitions prefixing it and no flaky mess in my boot.ini I booted back into ubuntu live, setup a swap and root partition on the remaining space, installed ubuntu there.. Once complete, a reboot gave only XP & UBUNTU as boot options -It didnt see the OSX partition either.. Manually added the entry to /dev/sda2 as hd0,1 in the grub menu list, still would not boot. So, I figured what the heck.. Downloaded Kalyway 10.5.1 burned using (Roxio).. got the ebios read error device timeout..Realized the 10.5.0 disk I was using was from a while back which I burned w/ another pc using Alchol.. So I installed alcohol, burned.. tried.. Installer came up lightening fast. Kalyway distro was light years better than whatever 10.5.0 I had.. Once install was complete, I figured I'd get the chain0 error still, however sure enough, it launched with no issues... Works both ways (using my added grub entry) and also boots using the chain0 file once I select XP from grub and then X... So.. Again, this is a big ramble.. but lessons learned for me were: 1) using a different distro fixed my chain0 error and was 10x faster at installing 2) simply changing burning software ( Not using Roxio ) fixed my ebios error Now that I know why the ebios error was coming up, I may be tempted to try a newer distro.. I was sticking to the older versions because those worked for me in the past.. (ha! because I didnt use roxio in the past! fk) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/163244-kalyway-1052-on-thinkpad-x60s/ Share on other sites
