Monq
Heh, finally I got a DVD drive... but I'm getting that annoying "Still waiting for root device" error, so I'm unable to start the installation. I'm using a IDE HD & DVD, my motherboard is an old MSI N1996... I think it only supports IDE (no "SATA" options in the BIOS, or I couldn't find it). I've tried setting DVD as primary master, slave, secondary master, etc etc, but nothing makes this DVD install, and I think I'm going to give up soon... I tried booting with -x, -f, platform=OSX86, platform=ACPI, rd=disk0s2, rd=disk1s2, rd=disk0, rd=disk1... I've searching @ google, here, etc etc for a while, but I got no solution working for me.... Any help needed and appreciated... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159518-damn-still-waiting-for-root-device/ Share on other sites
Pat-FT
Hi ! The MSI N1996 is very very (very !) old. For sure, you will not have Sata, which appears in PC hardware something like 6 or 7 years after the design of this motherboard. I do not know if somebody already installed OS X on this hardware. lordxdeamon
I have same problem here but my specs are: amd x2 4800+ ga-ma69vm-s2 Bios F9 (tried also on F8) master IDE 80 Gb slave IDE dvd drive ram 6 Gb HD3870 I've tried to install few times with changed memory to 2 Gbs, and most of time no result - still waiting for root device. But when i changed the dvd drive (the one i had is really old) and loaded default profile of bios for some reason it worked (only one time :/). I've choosed bad drivers so it doesn't start. Kalaway 10.5.2 distro had no problems finding/installing on that drive. Any suggestion what to do now?
